The invention relates' to improvements in boxes and analogous receptacles.
The object of the present invention is'to 'provide asimple andv inexpensive receptacle which will possessl great lightness, and which while embodying this advantage will have vthe necessary strength to withstand all strains incident to shi ping.
The -inventio consists in the and novel combination and arrangementof vconstruction in the accompanying-drawingsand pointed out in the claims heretczappcnded."
In the drawings-Figure 1 is 'a-perspective view of a box Iconstructed in accordance-with this invention; Fig.. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view showing a corner of the frame... Figs. 4 and 5 are detail perspective views ot"V ends'of the horizontal bars. Fig. 6 is aA detail `perspec-v tive view of an end of one of the cornerposts.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding partsin all the figures of the draw- 1ngs. 1 i
l designates a frame adapted to receive the sides 2, ends 3,*.the top 4 and t-h'e bottom 5 of a box, and comprising corner posts 6, arranged i at the vertical edges of the box and horizon- -tal bars 7 and S arranged at the top and bottom horizontaiedges of the box. The-sides,
ends and top and bottom are A'arrangged in grooves 9 of the bars Iand corner postsand are framed by said' bars and posts, wherebyl a box is formed which'is exceedingly light and which possesses greatV strength owing to the encompassing frame and whichis adapted to withstand all 'the strains, and 'jars incident to shipping goods. The ends of the corner posts are provided at their inner `ends with i curved recesses or mortises 10; and the ends of the vhorizontal bars 7 and 8 areiprovided with rounded tenons 11 and 12 adapted to fit in the curved, partially 'cylindrical mortiscs or recesses l0 and are securedthercin by nails 13 or similar fastening devices. l and 8 arc beveled at the inner side of the -ing the fastening devices which The bars 7 l withshoulders 14 and 15, which fit against .similar edges of the cornerposts andjform a i. rigid frame of the bars and posts. The inner edges of the cornerposts land the horizontal bars are beveled to avoid any sharp edges on the interior of a receptacle.
It will be seen that the receptaclesc'onstruct'ed in accordance with this inventlon are simple, light, strong and durable, that they greatly decrease the weight of a package and thereby lessen the freight, and thatl they may be readily separated by withdrawthe tenons.
Changes in thefor'm, proportion and the minor details of 'constrn'ction may be resorted.
to without ldeparting from` the principle o-r pass through sacrificing any of the advantages of this inventon.
In the accompanying drawings onlytwo tenons are provided ateach end of a corner post, but,` in larger boxes a greater number of ten'ons may be necessary or desirable.
What I claim isi 1. Ajoint for boxes and analogous receptacles, comprising a post provided at the end with a curvediecess, horizontal bars having rounded tenons fitting in and iilling the curved recess and provided at the sides'of the tenons with shoulders fitting against the post, and a fastening device passed through the tenons into scribed.'
i?. A receptacle comprising a 'framecomposed of corner posts'provided at their ends with curved recesses, and horizontal bars provided at their ends with rounded ltenons of one-half the thickness of the bars, two ofthe tenons fitting in leach of the recesses and shouldersbeing formed at 4the outer sides of the tenons'and fitting against the corner posts, fastening devices passed through the tenons, and the sides, ends, top and bottom arranged in the frame, substantially as described.
In testimony' that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed the presence of twowitn'esses.
