SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 500,667, dated July 4, 1893.

Be it known that I, EDWARDW. Mormons, a citizen of the United States, residing at Madison, in the county of Dane and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and useful Stovepipe-Fastener, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in devices for fastening stove pipes in chimneys; and the objects of inyimprovements are first to provide a fastening device which shall be looked upon and against the walls of the chimney where the stove pipe hole enters the same; second to provide a clamp connected with said fastening device which shall lock the stove pipe entering the chimney to said part so locked to the wall. I attain these ob jects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1. is a front view of my device before it is applied; and Fig. 2. is a horizontal projection thereof when applied, showing also lateral sections of the chimney wall.

I provide the broken compression ring a, a slightly elastic metal strip having its ends bent perpendicularly outward forming the separate lugs 1. 1, and having the circular or hearing part of its periphery inside a little less than the outside periphery of the stovepipe so as to admit of its attachment to the pipe by compression. The ringis compressed upon the pipe by turning in the clamp screw, or nutted screw bolt 1), which is inserted lat erally through perforations in the two lugs 1 1. At two opposite sides in the ring a about ninety degrees from the opening the two arms 0 c are attached formed of elastic metal strips projecting perpendicularly from the edge of the ring so that they will extend along and beyond the stove pipe and into its hole, but not into the chimney opening, their outer sides resting for a distance from the ends against the chimney wall 2 i on either side. One of the arms 0. is provided with a double lug (1, extending at right angles inwardly; in which lug the brace f. is articulated upon the movable pin g; inserted in one of a series of perforations by which arrangement the lever 1. may be adjusted so as to bear with force directly against one of the arms 0' and so as to bear by pressure upon the lug against the other arm 0. The opposite arm 0' is provided on its inner surface with a stop 6. near its outward end and with the two separated guides h h leading to the stop, for guiding and stopping the movable or free end of the bracef. when brought from its pendent position at f. to its rigid or operating position at f.

The operation of my device will consist in placing the same with the clamp ring or.

against or near the chimney forming an outward extension of the stove pipe hole and with the arms 0 0 extending into and along the sides of the hole the ends of the arms being laterally against the chimney wall. The bracef. is hung by the pin g. inserted in such perforations as will allow the brace f. to be driven home with some pressure. The brace will be driven to its position at f against the arm 0 which will press the two arms 0. 0'. against the chimney wall, and the fastener will thus be locked in the chimney. The end of a length of pipe, will now be inserted in the compressing ring a. and through the same a distance to its proper place in the stove pipe hole. The ring will then be compressed by the turning in of its clamp screw 1), and the length of pipe will thus be locked in the fastener and will retain its place against the pressure or pull of other joined lengths tending to force it into or out of the chimney.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A stove pipe fastener consisting of a broken ring on the pipea clamp screw through the parts of the ring near the ends, arms reaching from the ring to the walls in the pipe hole a double lug with graduated perforations upon one arm and abrace upon a pin in the perforations driven against the other arm.

2. In combination a ring clasping a stove pipe, two arms upon the ring a double lug with graduated perforations upon one arm, guides and a stop upon the other arm and a brace articulated upon a pin in the perforations and driven between the guides to the stop.
