To all whmn it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J AMEs WRIGHT, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at Lancaster, in the county of Lancaster, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fasteners-for Doors, (patented in Great Britain September 18, 1890, No. 14,751,) of which the following is a specification.
This invention is designed to provide a cupboard door fastener which will automatically secure the door on its being closed and which can be applied'to hold two doors closed without the addition of a bolt, hook, or othercontrivance on the inner or first shutting door. It will be fully described with reference to the annexed drawings.

The fastener is constructed in the form of an elongated catch A barbed at a near the outer end to engage with a corresponding fixed catch B attached to the shelf or other permanent fixture 0 inside the cupboard. The catch A is pivoted at or near its other end to the fixed casting or bracket D on the pivot d with the end a projecting a short distance beyond the pivot.
Referring more particularly to the example shown in Figs. 1 to 3 the projecting end a of the pivoted catch A is acted upon by a similar projection e on the second lever E. The lever E is pivoted on the pin d to the bracket D its end 6 being formed either stepped or of other suitable shape to engage with the end a of the catch A. On the outer end of the lever E is placed a knob or handle F which can be drawn down to release the catch A, and the catch A is returned to normal position by the spring A. 1
Referring to the example shown in Figs. 4 to 6 the projecting end a of the pivoted catch A engages with a cam or lever g on the end of a spindle G. The spindle G rotates about its axis and the angular movement of the cam or lever 9 under the projecting end a of the catch A depresses the other end and disengages it from the fixed catch B. A knob or handle F is affixed to the outer end, of the spindle G wherewith to turn it. The fixed catch B is placed preferably under the shelf and so prevents anyinterference with the full use of the shelf. The catch is released in the one case by simply pulling down the knob or handle and in the other by turning it part of a revolution on its own axis. The action in either case is to raise the inner end a of'the pivoted catch A thereby depressing the outer barbed end a and releasing it from the fixed catch B. To look the cupboard an ordinary lock H is so placed against the pivoted catch that when the bolt h is projected it comes in "contact under the pivoted catch A and so prevents the catch being moved.
The knob or handle F may be made in any shape to imitate the present cupboard turns or fasteners and of any design in brass, iron, china, wood, or other material.
The apparatus is extremely simple and easy to fix as it is carried by a barrel or bracket D which will fitinto a central hole with a rose f to receive two or three screws.
What I claim, and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
In a fastener for the doors of cupboards and the like the combination with the door of a pivoted lever A provided at one end with a barbed catch a and at the other with a stepped bearing a against which the end of an actuating lever engages, a bracket D affixed to the door to carry the levers, a pin d upon which the lever A is pivoted, a second detached lever E the end of which acts upon the end a, pivoted on an independent pin (1, a spring A which holds the catch closed and a handle F by which the second lever is actuated substantially as described.
