JoHN r. DUFF, on PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
PRESS FOR STRAIGHTENING PLOW-CQLTERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part is Letters Patent No.49e,41s,' dated June 13, 1893. 4 I
Application filed July 28, 1892. Serial no. 441,533. (No model.)
To a. whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN T. DUFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Press for Straightening Plow-Oolters; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the bolts, or in any desired manner.
accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved press for straightening plow colters, and consists in certain details of construction, and combination of parts as will be fully described hereinafter.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved press, which is constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is an end elevation of the same. Fig 3 is a side elevation of the press.
The object of my invention is to provide a press whereby plow and other colters may be straightened, and to provide a means for holding the colters in position between the pressing dies, prior to pressing the same and also to provide a releasing device whereby the colters may be dropped vertically from between the said dies.
To construct a press in accordance with my invention, I provide a frame 1. of a suitable size and form of construction, and mount the same on legs 2. secured to the said frame by Secured'on the top of this frame 1. are one or more stationary pressing dies 3. capable of rotating within its bearing 6. and having a circular,
opening through its center. These dies"3..
consist of a large circular disk 3. a journal 4. and rear collar 5. Operating through the-center of this die 3. is a short shaft 7. having a rounded front end, and a means 8. at the rear to attach the same to a hand lever 9. This lever 9. is pivoted to the frame 1. and connected to the shaft 7. byabolt passing through a slot 10. formed in the hand lever, and extending in the direction of the length of the same.
Attached to the hand lever 9. audto the bearings 15. and having loosely attached thereto, a threaded shaft 16. This shaft 16. is passed through a threaded bearing 17.formed on a bracket 18. integral with the frame 1.
Attached to the shaft 16. isa large hand wheel 19. by means of which the die 13. may be moved towardt-he die 3.opposite, and made to press colters20. placed between the same.
In the drawings,-I have shownseveralof the above described pressegmounted on the one frame, which will reduce the cost where numbers of such presses are required. I I
In operatioriz'the colters 20. are placed on the projecting end of the shaft 7. after separating the dies. The hand wheel 19. 1s revolved in the proper direction, which moves the die 13. against the colters, and by pressure applied to the said wheel 19. the colters are pressed between the said dies. These colters 20. are allowedto'remain in this compressed condition until str'aightened; When it is desired to remove the colters 20. from the press, the dies are separated by revolving the hand wheel 19. back, and the lever 9. is operated to withdraw the shaft 7. within the journal 4. of the die 3. which will permit the colters 20. to drop vertically from between the dies. r e
Having thus described my invention, what .I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I a In combination with apress, for. pressing colters, a shaft projecting through one of the dies, a hand lever connected to said shaft and spring for recovering or bringing the said 5 shaft back to position, substantially as described. i
