S. M. VAUGLAIN. INJBGTOR PoR LoGoMoTIVEs.
No. 499,063. Patented June 6, 1893.

SAMUEL M. VAUCLAIN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
lNJEoToR FOR LOCOMOTIVES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 499,063, dated J' une 6, 1893.
Application filed July 2l, 1890. Serial No. 359.367. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. VAUCLAIN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Injectors for Locomotives, of which the following is aspecification.
The object of my invention is to improve the construction of injectors used on locomotive engines, that the Water from the drip or overfiow will be returned to the feed pipe, and by so constructing the connecting parts that only one hose connection tothe tank of the tender is necessary. This object I attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, the figure in which represents a side View of my improved injector for locomotives. j
A is the injector proper of the usual construction, having the steam inlet a, feed Water inlet b, outlet (l, and drip over-How e, and the regulating valve f.
B is the feed pipe coupled to the feed inlet b, and to a strainer coupling D, having a strainer h, shown by dotted lines. This coupling D is carried by the locomotive,Y and is coupled to the tank F, by a bose E or othe iiexible tubular connection.
In the present instance, directly below the drip opening e, is a funnel e', of the Waste pipe G, this waste pipe is attached to the nipple d', of the strainer coupling D. Thus all the Water which would be otherwise Wasted, is returned to the feed pipe directly' back of the strainer but not to the tank. Consequently the same coupling hose may be used to connect the engine and tender as heretofore.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the locomotive engine and tender coupled together, a Water-tank carried by the tender, a single coupling connecting the feed Water pipe With the tank on the tender, said coupling provided with astrainer, an injector A, coupled to the pipe and carried by the locomotive, a steam inlet for the injector, a feed Water connection with the boiler, an overow outlet, a drip pipe G, for the overow, said drip pipe being connected With the strainer coupling, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
SAMUEL M. VAUCLAIN.
Witnesses:
