FOLDING BED.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SWIBERT ZIMMERMANN, of New York city, New York, have invented an Improved Folding Bed, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a folding bed which when closed constitutes a table and which is' provided with a hinged extensible foot piece, that permits the bed to bemade longer than the length of the table. t V

The letters a, represent the side pieces of the bed, supported upon feet as usual and connected at one end by the head piece a;

To this'head piece there is hinged a plate b, that extends over the entire bed and which when let down constitutes a table. The foot piece 0, of the bed is made of peculiar construction. It is hinged to a transverse rail 0', of the bed bottom and is provided on its upper side with a pair of rails 0 folding between side pieces a, and with a plate 0 which connects the rails 0 and is set back from the upper edge of the end piece 0. To this upper edge there is pivotedapair of legs 0 When the foot piece is folded upward (Fig. 2) the plate 0 extends parallel to the bed bottom and constitutes a play table for the child. In this position the foot board is locked by a bolt 0 and the upper-edge of the foot board constitutes a rest or support for the table I). When the foot piece is folded downward (Fig. 1), the foot piece itself constitutes an extension of the bed bottom thus enlarging the size of the bed. The side rails 0 constitute an extension of the side pieces a, and the plate 0 constitutes a foot rest. In this position the footpiece is supported by the legs 0 The table I), is secured in its upright position, by means of the bolt 12', engaging eye b of the head piece a (Fig. 2). To the lower face of the table there is pivoted aframe f, carrying a mosquito net f and operated by string f.

In order to support the mattress A, I employ in lieu ofthe usual bed bottom, a set of hooks 2', projecting beneath, the lower edge of side pieces a. In this way the bed is deepened, which is of importance, as its height is necessarily limited to the ordinary height of a table. 7

When the entire device is folded, it constitutes as already stated, a complete table. When it is to be used as a bed, the plate I), is raised and locked in position by the bolt b. The foot piece may however, remain folded upward as in Fig. 2, whenthe device will constitute a childs crib. To form a bed for adults, the foot piece 0, is swung down (Fig.
