Description

(No Model.)
F. vW. GILROY. DRAWERS STRETGHEB.
' No. 497,782 Patented May 23,1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FLORENCE W. GILROY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DRAWERS-STRETCH ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,782, dated May 23, 1893.
Application filed July 2'7, 1892.
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, FLORENCE W. GILROY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawers- Strctchers,ef which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for stretching drawers and similar garments and consists in certain novel features which will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of the device folded. Fig. 2 is a similar View showing it arranged for use and Figs. 3 and 4 are detail views.
In carrying out my invention I employ two members A, A, which are of the proper shape to conform to the legs of the garment and are hinged together at their wider ends, as shown at B, so that they may be readily folded together when not in use and opened to hold the garment when so desired.
In practice, the garment is placed over the members A, A, while wet, and is allowed to remain thereon while drying and will consequently be prevented from shrinking as it dries.
In order to give my device the greatest possible efiiciency. I construct the members A, A,
of the two arms or bars 0, C, which are piv- Serial No. 441,359. (No modeL) slipping laterally out of engagement with the notches.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it will be seen that I have provided a very simple stretcher which can be manufactured at a slight cost and can be easily manipulated.
When not in use, the device may be folded into a very compact form and will occupy but little space, the pawls fitting in the recesses within which they are pivoted and the two arms lying close together.
It is obvious that my device can be quickly adjusted to the size of the garment and will efiectnally prevent the garment from shrinking while drying.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patcut, is
In a garment stretcher, the combination with the two arms pivoted together, at one end, one of said arms having a recess at its free end and the other being provided at its free end with a series of transverse notches and a longitudinal groove intersecting said notches, of a pawl pivoted in the said recess and engaging said notches and having .a tongue playing in said groove.
In testimony whereof I afiix mysignature in the presence of two witnesses.
FLORENCE W. GILROY.
