Be it known that I, FRIEDRIOH BAUM, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, residing at Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented a new and useful Universal Winding-Up-lVatch Apparatus, (for Which I have not obtained a patent in any conntry,) of which the following' is a specifieation.
The object of my invention is to provide a universal clock Winding key, by means of Which clocks suspended above the ordinary reach of a person can be easily Wound up, without the use of step ladders, the., simple and durable in construction, and reliable in operation.
Said invention consists in the improved key holder,its operating mechanism, and the combination and arrangement of the various parts thereof, substantially as Will be hereinafter more fully described and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.
Referring to the aecompanying drawings, in Which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each of the several views, Figure 1 illustrates in a central vertical seetion my improved clock-Winding key. Figs. 2 and 3 are side and front elevations of the same respectively. Fig. lz is an enlarged detail view of the key holder, and Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate the Way of using` my improved key for Winding up a clock.
In said drawings A and B represent the frame plates, adapted to form a longitudinal channel l). Said plates are firmly secured together by cross-pieces or bridges a, and are also adapted to form the bearings for the spindles o and d. To the spindle c, and between the plates A B is secured a grooved Wheel C, and on the outside of frame B, and to the extendingportion of spindle e a crank or lever K. The upper spindle (d) is also provided With a grooved Wheel D, connected with the Wheel O by a belt or rope S, passing over frietion rollers E, arranged in channel b. (Said frietion rollers are also adapted to keep the belt S Within the channel.) To the extending portion of the spindle dis secured in any desired manner, a sleeve F, provided at its free end With an elastie rod G, (preferably made of leather.) To the end of said elastic rod is seeured the key U, adapted to be removed and be replaced by keys to fit their respective clocks.
At or near the top of frame l (or A if desired) is seeured a Wire H, provided at its free end With a ball J, made of rubber, eloth or any desired material. By means of said extension Wire, the position of the hands of clock can be changed if desired. In operation the key U is placed With its squared socket on the Winding` stud of the clock, and is then by means of the crank or lever K (operating the Wheels O and D) rotated as Will be manifest.
By means of the intermediate elastic rod G, the clock is prevented from being moved out of place, as said rod Will follow the movement of the 'frames A and B.
I do not intend to limit myself to the construction shown and described, as various alterations can be made, Without changing the scope of my invention, but
lVhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a clock Winding key the combination With the frame, of a spindle arranged at the upper end of said frame, a sleeve arranged on said spindle, an elastie rod secured in said sleeve and adapted to receive the key, and means for operating said spindle from the opposite end of the frame, all said parts, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
