SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,303, dated May 16, 1893.
Application filed December 31, 1891. Serial No. 416,738. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN J. OALLOW, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cleveland, county of Ouyahoga, State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sign-Letters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to sign letters, and consists in the method of making thin metallic letters substantially as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings :Figure 1 represents a mold in which a letter is produced. Fig. 2 is a similar mold for a letter of a diiferent type. Figs. 3 and 4 represent ing material, having a polished surface, a deep intaglio or cameo mold, in the form of the letters desired, having a shallow line, or ornamental fringed border all around the mold to provide for the flange, and then electro depositing metal on the said mold or form. These letters may be highly finished by buffing, gilding or other ornamental means.
Having described my invention, I claim- The process of making these metallic flanged sign letters, emblems, &c., which consists in first forming in a sheet of glass, or other similar non-conducting material, having a polished surface, a deep intaglio or cameo mold, in the form of the letters desired, having a shallow line all around themold to provide for the flange, and subsequently electro-depositing metal on the said mold or form,
as set forth.
JOHN J. OALLOW. Witnesses:
