S. L. OONDE. CLAMP FOR TYPE WRITERS.
Patented May 9, 1893.
mnijies'. W/WZ UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL L. CONDE, OF ROCKFORD, ILLINOIS.
CLAMP FOR TYPE-WRITERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 497,015, dated May 9, 1893.
Application file September 19, 1892. $erial No 446,242- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, SAMUEL L. Gonna, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rockford, in the county of Winnebago and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clamps for Securing Type-Writers in Position, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to construct a clamp which is secured to the base board or support for the typewriter, said clamp provided with a vertical screw carrying an arm which en gages the frame work of the machine and by turning the screw the arm is brought in contact with the frame,thereby holding the machine in position and by turning the screw in the opposite direction the arm is raised until it is free of the frame and it may be swung in the lengthwise direction of the frame, permitting the removal of the typewriter.
In the accompanying drawings-Figure1 is an isometrical representation of my improved clamp. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same.
My improved clamp is employed to secure the typewriter to its base and is especially useful in cabinets where the typewriter is swung downward within a receptacle, when the machine is not in use.
My improved clamp consists of a base 1, having an upward standard 2 and an overhanging arm 3. The overhanging arm and baseportion are provided with vertical holes which receive a vertical screw 4:. This screw is passed down through the overhanging arm and its enlarged head 5 prevents its farther descent. The base portion 1 is provided with a recess 6 in its base. A washer 7 is placed over the lower end of the screw 4E and its extreme lower endis riveted which prevents the removal of the screw. The upper end of the The upper end of this elastic cushion is provided with a stud 12, which enters the hole in the overhanging arm. Two holes, 13, are formed in the base through which screws are passed, to secure the clamp to the woodwork. Two of these clamps are secured to the woodwork, one on each side of the typewriter, and in such relation thereto that the cushion in the overhanging arm, when the parts are in the position shown in the drawings, will rest upon the lengthwise bar of the frame of the typewriter, and by means of the thumb nut the screw 4 is turned, which will move the overhanging arm downward, bringing the elastic cushion in contact with the lengthwise bars of the typewriter frame, firmly clamping the frame to the woodwork. In order to remove the typewriter from the wooden base the screw L is turned in the opposite direction, which will raise the overhanging arm sufficiently to allow the overhanging arm to be swung upon the vertical shaft in the lengthwise direction of the lengthwise bars of the typewriter, when the typewriter can be readily removed. The screw 4 is of sufficient length to adapt it to the various makes of typewriters.
I claim as my invention- 1. A clamp for type-writers consisting of a base, a vertical arm and an over hanging arm, the overhanging arm and base provided with vertical holes, a screw threaded shaft located in the holes, and an outwardly extending arm having an engagement with the shaft, capable of a vertical and lateral movement.
2. A clamp for type-writers consisting of a base, a vertical arm and an overhanging arm,
the overhanging arm and base provided with vertical holes, a screw threaded shaft located in the holes, and an outwardly extending arm having an engagement with the shaft, capable of a Vertical and lateral movement, and having a recess in its outer end within which is seated a yielding cushion.
