Description

(No Model.) 4 v A. WADHAMS. APPARATUS FORAPRBEZING WINE. No. 496,922. Patented May 9, 1893.
@www/[Sofa atto/Lumi? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARTHUR WADHAMS, OF GA-LVESTON, TEXAS.
APPARATUS FOR FREEZING WINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 496,922, dated May 9, 1893.
Application filed November 11, 1892. Serial No. 451.700. (No model.)
To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ARTHUR WADHAMs, residing at Galveston, in the county of Galveston and State of Texas, have invented an Improved Method and Apparatus for Frapping Wines and Liquors, of which the following is a specification. Y
This invention relates to an improved means for frapping or artificially cooling wines and liquors, the object of the invention being to provide a device that will produce the de sired results in much shorter time than is now employed by the common method and apparatus. u
With these objects in View, my invention consists in the peculiar construction of the several parts and their novel combination or arrangement, all of which will be fully described hereinafter and pointed out in 'the claim.
In the drawing forming apart of this specification I have shown a central vertical section of my improved device, certain parts being shown in elevation.
In carrying' out my invention, I employ an outer casing A, closed at the bottom and provided with hinged covers B, B, said covers being cut away at b to embrace the neck of a bottle C, which is placed within a perforated cylinder D, arranged in the casing A. Spring claspng tongues E, E, are attached to the bottom of cylinder D, and serve to hold the bottle in an upright position.
An upwardly projecting stud F, is arranged on the bottom of the casing A, and upon this stud the bottle rests and turns, as clearly Shown.
G, indicates a drip trough located upon the exterioroi' caseA,and at the bottom of the same to catch the condensed vapor that forms upon the exterior of case.
I'I, indicates a bail or yoke adapted to be secured therein by means of set screws h.
The bail H, carries a circular case I within which is arranged a convolute spring K, said spring being rigidly connected with a shaft L, which projects both above and below the case I. The upper end of the shaft L, is adapted to receive a key L by means of which the spring is wound. The lower end of shaft is adapted to be seated in the socketm of the clamp M, which firmly grasps the neck of the bottle projecting above the covers B, B.
In operation the cylinder is arrangedin the case, the bottle Within the cylinder, the annular space packed with ice, and the covers turned down. The clamp M, is then secured upon the neck of bottle. attached ,the spring wound and the lower end of shaft inserted in the socket of clamp M. The spring being released, the bottle will revolve upon the central stud and the opera- The bail H, is then 6o tion of frapping or artificially reducing the temperature will then be carried on 'and accomplished in a very short time.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- An improved Wine cooling device comprising an outer case having a central stud, upon which a bottle is adapted to rest, an inner perforated cylinder having upwardly projecting spring tongues upon its interior, adapted to hold the bottle in a vertical position, abail attached to the outer case, a vertical spring actuated shaft carried by said bail, and a clamp adapted to be secured to the neck of the bottle, and connected with the shaft, substantially as shown and described. l
ARTHUR WADIIAMS.
