UNITED STATES PATENT RICHARD BACON, OF SIMSBURY, CONNECTICUT.
Specification forming part of Letters PatentNo. 4,957, dated February 5,1847.
To all whom it may concern..-
Be it known that I, RICHARD Baron, of Simsbury, in the county of Hartford, State of Connecticut, and a citizen of said State. have invented and reduced to practice a new-and useful Improvement ,in the safety-fuse used for igniting the charge in blasting rocks and other substances, both in dry or wet ground,
above or under water, which fuse is in com-- mon use inthis country, and was patented in England by William Bickford in the early part of the reign of \Villiam the IV, and is some" The fuse with my improvement is represented in the accompanying drawings in Figures l and 2, of which Fig. 2 is a longitudinal and central section.
A represents a portion of the perfect fuse.
B B represent the threads that compose the frame-work of the fuse. E
C represents thethreads that cover the framework spirally, and are called the countering threads.
D represents the saturated thread or cover in the center of the powder, extending lengthwise through the fuse.
\Vhat I claim as my improvement, and for which I ask .Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the saturated coverthread with the fuse, substantially in the main ner above described.
