To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, MAURICE DUESBERG- DELREZ, a subject of the King of Belgium, residing at Verviers, Belgium, have invented a certain newand useful Improvement in Card- Clothing, (the same having been patented in my behalf in Belgium December 31, 1890, No. 93,303, and February 28, 1891, No. 93,794; in Germany April 10, 1891, No. 60,104; in England March 5, 1891, No. 3,981; in Spain February 25, 1891, No. 11,814; in Italy February 23, 1891, No. 29,259, and in France February 19, 1891, No. 211,538,) of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to an improvement in card-teeth for card-clothing and has for its object the production of card-teeth which are more supple, elastic and durable than those heretofore made, and of comparatively inexpensive manufacture.

In my invention, I form each card-tooth with a supplementary angle or angles at the base thereof so as to present abroken, curved or crooked line.

In the accompanying drawings, illustrating my invention, in the several figures of which like parts are similarly designated, Figures 1 and 2 represent elevations of card-teeth as Figs. 3 and 1 are similar views of card-teeth made according to my invention, and Fig. 5 is a sectional elevation of a piece of card-clothing set with my improved card-teeth, all of the figures showing parts exaggerated for clearness of illustration.

Referring to Fig. 3 it will be seen that the base a of each tooth b no longer constitutes a straight liue,but an angle, the top 0 of which is situated at the side whence the points of the teeth are directed; while in Fig. 4 the base of the tooth is formed with two angles, the tops 0 and c of which are on opposite sides.

It will be understood that owing to my invention besides the general flexibility which exists at the base, that is to say, at the point near where the tooth is inserted in the leather d (or other material employed) and throughout the length of the card, flexibility will also exist at each bend of the crooked wire that actually forms the card tooth. With the double supplementary angle or bend, as shown in Fig. 1, there are three angles in all, which give a considerable amountof flexibility.

It will be readily understood that in carding any material, owing to myinvention, I obtain with the same steel wire and the same total length between the leather and the ends of the teeth, a much greater flexibility and therefore smoothness of action, suppleness and vibration, at the same time giving greater durability to the leather, felt, rubber or other card clothing or backing in which the teeth are inserted, the teeth being less liable to break. i

The angles and the length of the teeth between the said angles may be varied according to requirements.

In using the term supplementary angle herein, I mean to be understood as defining an addition to a card-tooth of one or more angular bends or crooks over and above what has hitherto been common in card-teeth.

Having now particularly described and as certained the nature of my said invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is- 1. A card-tooth having a supplementary angle at the base, as and for the purpose hereinbefore described.

2. Card-clothing composed of a flexible backing, and teeth inserted therein and having supplementary angles at their bases, substantially as described.
