SLOT GAMING-MACHINE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 495,285, dated April 11, 1893.

Application filed September 27, 1892. Serial No. 447,025. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, ROBERT S. WILLIAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Merchantville,in the State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Automatic Slot Gaming-Machine, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part hereof.

The object of my invention is to provide an amusing game of chance for parlor and indoor use, and its nature will appear from the following description, it may also be used as a savings bank.

In the drawings:Figure l is a broken front elevation of my device, partially broken away to show the inner mechanism; Fig. 2 a vertical cross-sectional view of the line a; of Fig. 1.

A is the box, divided into two compartments B B by a partition 0 O, D D a trap or flap pivoted at E, its rear end being weighted at E where it rests upon lip F, Ga slot adapted to receive small fiat disks, buttons, 85c.

Flap D D is provided with a slot 0; whereby when the flap is tilted downward under a superincumbent weight the portions D and D will pass down on opposite sides of part 0 of the partition.

H is the door, hinged at the points H H to the front face I of the box (which face is bell shaped in outline) and provided with a ring engaging beneath a ring from face I at J where it is locked by a padlock K.

A is a slanted bottom, the slant extending up the back of part B to throw the disks or buttons through opening L out upon plate L.

M is a safety trap, check or guard, adapted to drop under the last weight placed upon it and to be then returned to place by the weak well tempered fiat spring N, which is secured at one end to the partition 0; whereby the contents of chamber B are protected against removal until the door H is opened.

The operation is as follows:-The disks, or buttons are of diiferent weights or sizes, if desired. Two or more play with an equal number of buttons each. Buttons of various weights are pushed into slot G resting upon flap D D; finally one of the players puts in abutton which, with those already deposited,

overcomes weights E, the flap is tilted and some of the buttons fall into chamber B, where they are retained beneath trap M and some, perhaps all, fall through chamber B out upon plate L and are then appropriated by the last player. The player holding buttons when the supply of the other or others is exhausted wins the game. Door H is now opened, the buttons are re-distributed and another game is begun. Children can play for accumulating penny savings; the winner of each game keeps what pennies he or she has left and the box can be opened at the next holiday season and its contents divided between them. The door H, when closed, forms part of face I. The lower edge of guard Mis bent downward and inward forming the lip U, so that the buttons may to a greater or less extent jam between the lip and the side shell of the box to lock the guard when the box is inverted, whereby some resistance may be offered against opening the guard by means of a wire inserted at the slot.

What I claim as new is 1. The box A, provided internally with partition O 0, single slotted flap D D pivoted and weighted as described; the partition 0 O forming a closed chamber B and chamber B the latter being provided with a lower exit opening L; one of the faces of the box being provided with entry slot G, substantially as described.

2. The box A, provided internally with partition O O, dividing it into two chambers B B, the latter chamber being provided with slanted back A and exit opening L; single flap D D provided with slot 0, weighted and pivoted as described; one of the faces of the box being pivoted with entry slot G, substantially as described.

3.
