Description
UNITED STATES JOHN WEHR, OF ROANOKE, INDIANA.
IMPROVED MACHINE FOR CUTTING HARNESS-LEATHER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 49,459, dated August 15, 1865.
To all whom it may concern.- y
Be it known that I. JOHN VVEHR, of Roanoke, in the county ot' Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Machine for Cutting Filling for Raised or Rounded Harness; and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawings, iorming part of this specification, in which- Figure lisa longitudinal vertical section of my invention, taken in the line :c x, Fig. 2; Fig. 2, a transverse vertical section ot' the same, taken in the line y y, Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention consists of a series ot bits placed in an adjustable frame and a series of guides placed in a yielding frame, the above parts being used in connection with a pressure-roller, and all arranged to admit ot' leather being out in roundedl form, to serve as filling for rounded or raised straps for harness.
A represents a rectangular frame, which is secured horizontally to a bench or any suitable support; and Bis an upright, secured to each G, and having secured to it a series of bits or cutters, b, of gouge form and of differentsizes. (See Fig.4 2.)
H represents an elastic plate, which serves as a yielding frame for a series of guides, c,
which correspond in size to the bits or cutters, and are in line with them.
The roller E is above the bits and guides, and the leather strip (shown iu red) to be cut is placed in a guide, c, theone switch, or corresponding to its width, and is drawn through by hand underneath the roller E and over the bit or cutter b, which is inline with the guide y of the guides e adjusting themselves to the` inequalities of the strip, causing it to be out ot' an equal or uniform thickness throughout. The frame F, by means ot' the set-screw G, may be adjusted higher or lower, as occasion may require.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The yielding guides c and the adjustable bits or cutters b,in combination with the pressureroller E, all arranged to operate substantially in the manner as `and for the purpose herein set forth.
JOHN WE HR.
