TROUSERS-STRETCHER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 494,241, dated March 28, 1893. Application filed March 17, 1892. Serial No. 425,312. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, RICHARD BENNETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Trousers-Stretchers, of which the following is so full, clear, and exact a description as will enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of myimproved stretcher with parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a detail elevation of the adjusted mechanism.

The object of my invention is to provide a trousers stretcher by the use of which any person not skilled in the art of stretching and pressing may easily and quickly adjust the scretcher and press a pair of trousers into the proper shape in the shortest possible time and with the least expense of physical and mechanical force.

Another object of my invention is to provide a trousers stretcher which may be taken apart and the parts put together to occupy the smallest possible space.

Another object of my invention is to make a stretcher for the purposes mentioned which shall contain the least weight consistent with proper strength for the work required.

The novelty resides in the peculiarities of construction and the combination of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described, shown and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings A designates a rigid stretching-rod made in two sections, to the upper end of the upper one of which are secured arms B B the outer ends of which arms are provided with hooks C O each one of which is secured to a sleeve which embraces the arm to which it is secured, and each one of which is also provided with a set screw to facilitate the adjustment of the same at a proper distance from the central point of support. The rod A is broken about centrally and is provided with a pin D which fits within the hollow rod and keeps the two sections in position. At the lower portion of the rod is an adjustable sleeve which is adjustable on the rod by means of a set-screw E. To this sleeve are pivotally secured at b clamp jaws F F each of which is secured thereto at the end of a swinging yoke G provided with a set-screw h.

The hooks O C are adapted to receive the two buttons at the rear of the trousers and the two buttons in front as heretofore explained, while the arms B B are extended up on each side of the crotch of the trousers 011 the out-side. The stretching-rod A extends down between the legs of the trousers and the lower ends of both legs are clamped between thejaws F F. The j aws are secured together at the bottom of the trousers by a clamp or yokes G G and the set-screws hh. The graduated scale on the lower portion of the stretching-rod enables the operator to get the exact. length desired.

The sleeve E is adjusted and securely fastened according to requirement, then the trousers are clamped together and stretched in place and allowed to remain in the stretcher the proper time when they are ready for use.
