WILLIAM BERTRAM MOORE, OF NEW GLASGOW, AND GEORGE BINGAY VVILLETT, OF MONCTON, CANADA, ASSIGNORS OE TWO-THIRDS TO \VILLIAM M. WVALTON AND HERBERT RICHMOND, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
TICKET-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 493,511, dated March 14, 1893. Application filed May 27, 1892. Serial No. 434,679. (No model.) Patented in Canada January 21, 1892. No. 38,134.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM BERTRAM MOORE, of New Glasgow, in the county of Pictou and Province of Nova Scotia, and GEORGE BINGAY WILLETT, of Moncton, Provinceof NewBrunswick, Canada, havein vented a new and useful Improvement in Car-Ticket Holders, (for which we have obtained a patentin Canada under No. 38,134, granted January 21, 1892;) and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being made to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a full elevation of a holder embodying our invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional elevation of the same.
Like symbols denote the same parts.
The first part of our invention relates to the combination of a board or stand and a spring loop which bears against the same in sucha manner that the said spring loop will be capable of holding any cardor ticket independent of size or shape that may be placed on the face of said board or stand, the object of this part of our invention being to make a simple means of holding any sized card or ticket firmly without the necessity of obstructing the View of the face or printing thereon.
The second part of our invention relates to the combination of a retaining bar which passes across the lower face of the spring loop, being securely fastened to the board or stand at each end in such a manner that the said spring can only be drawn back a certain distance, the object of this part of our invention being to supply a means for preventing the spring from being strained or broken when drawn back for the reception of the card or ticket, and at the same time to form a rest for the lower edge of the card or ticket in such a way that any vibration or jarring will not affect the position of the same.
The third part of our invention relates to the combination of the spiral or coiled springs at each end of the said loop, and a bar passing through the said spirals and fastened in such a position that the spring will work freely on the face of the board or stand, the object of this part of our invention being to secure an elastic though strong spring to the loop which holds the card or ticket against the face of the board or stand. 7
In the drawings a is the board or stand of the holder which is constructed from a piece of hard wood and may be cut to any s ze or shape.
B is the spring loop made of strong steel wire galvanized. It will be seen that on each end of this spring loop there are spiral coils d d and that after the ends are coiled as shown they are bent down, as shown atfand passing through the small plate E, are securely fastened to the board or stand a.
Secured to the board or stand aand at suitable distances are fastened two eyes h 71?. These are placed in such a position that the coils d 61 will go loosely between them. Through these eyes It 71. and also passing through the coils d d is passed the pin g, having the end securely fastened by riveting it over or by other means so as to prevent any chance of it coming out. It will be noticed that the pin 9 is made much smaller in diameter than the hole 2', in the center of the coils cl d but made to fit snugly into the eyes. This is made so that when the loop B, is drawn back the strain will be taken equally by each coil of the wire and not by the first one only as would be the case if the pin 9, fitted the holes t' exactly.
On the board or stand a, at the pointj there is a slight hollow or indenture. This is for the purpose of providing an easy means of getting the finger under the loop B when it is wanted to draw it forward for the purpose of putting in a new card or ticket or removing an old one.
C is the retaining bar consisting of a piece of wire with ends bent at right angles and passed through the base a so as to secure it in place a short distance outward from the loop and toward the lower end of same.
Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a carticket holder, an open faced movable ticket holding portion, or frame, connected horizontally at its lower end with the suping coiled portions d d near its ends, and
such ends secured to the base, a bar g passed through said coiled portions and eyes it h secured to the base, as shown.
3. In a car ticket holder, the combination a of the base such as a, of the spring 100p B, having coiled port-ions d (1 near its ends and such ends secured to the base; a plate E secured to the base andthrough which said ends are passed; and a bar 9 passed through said coiled portions of the loop and secured to the base, as shown.
4. In a car ticket holder, the combination of the base such as a, of the springloopB and a fixed retaining bar 0 located across and a short distance out from the face of the loop near the lower end and having its ends bent at right angles to the face of the base and entering same, as shown.
