LAWN-SPRINKLER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 493,312, dated March 14, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE H. THOMA, a citizen of the United States-residing at Three Rivers, county of St. Joseph, State of Michigan, have invented a new and useful Lawn- Sprinkler, of which the following isa specfication.

The object of this invention is to supplythe nozzle of a hose with a water-deflecting-plate which interrupts the regular flow of the water and sprays itover the lawn. Another object is to make said water-deflecting-plate in a manner that it may be so adjusted as to allow the re ular delivery of the water from the nozzle, without spraying or deflecting it. I

In the drawings forlninga part of this specification, Figure l is a side elevation, with the nozzle broken; and Fig. 2 is plan view of details from Fig. 1.

Referring to the lettered parts of the drawings, A represents a hose nozzle. To this nozzle is attached a stock, B, which may be attached thereto by any suitable means, however, the rubber ring, E, is found very convenient for the purpose, since all that has to be done is to pass the stock and rubber ring over the end of the nozzle, as illustrated in Fig. 1. The outerend of this stock is pointed, as at 0. Between this point, 0, and the end of the nozzle is hinged, at F, an adjustable deflecting-plate, O. This plate is provided with a spring, D, attached at its lower end to said deflecting-plate, its upper free end being provided with a series of holes, 6, adapted to catch over the point e, of the stock, B. Fig. 2 shows this deflecting-plate, C, in the position which it occupies when thrown upward or horizontally to the stock and nozzle, so as plate.

In Fig. 1 the deflecting-plate is tilted down at an oblique angle, which was caused by detaching the spring from the point a, tilting the said plate downward and catching the point a into another hole, e, of the spring, D. When in this position, the water, striking against the plate, is deflected and sprayed downward and outward and constitutes a very convenient modeof sprinkling.

This device is easily attached to and detached from the nozzle, and as before indicated, does nothave to be detached in order to use the normal flow of water from the nozzle, since the plate can be adjusted to a horizontal position without detaching from the nozzle.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-

The combination of a hose nozzle, a stock detachably attached thereto, said stock being provided with a point-at the free end beyond the end of the nozzle, and a water-deflectingplate hinged to said stock between said point and the end of the nozzle, said plate being provided with a spring having a series of holes adapted to adjustably engage with said point; substantially as set forth.
