SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent No. 492,304, dated February 21, 1893. Application filed July 18, 1892. Serial No.440,331. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES N. MAEKLE, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Gun-Cases, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved case for retailers use in holding guns and exhibiting them; and my invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
Figure I is a perspective view of my improved gun case. Fig. II is a detail, vertical section on a larger scale.
ReferringV to the drawings, l represents an outside, inclosing case, which may be of any suitable shape or size. It preferably has glass panels 2, and one or more doors 3. Within the case is a vertical shaft 4, heldin bearings in the top and bottom of thecase, and arranged to turn in said bearings. O11 the shaft is a lower disk 5, a top disk 6, and an intermediate disk 7. The disk 5 is larger than the disk 7 and each of these disks is provided on its upper surface With radial grooves 8 to receive the butts of the guns, as shown in Fig. I. The shape of the grooves prevents the guns turning in their supports and hold the guns with their hammers presented outwardly. The top disk 6 has two series of holes or perforations,an outer series 9, to receive the muzzle ends of the guns resting on the disk 5, and an inner series l0 to receive the muzzle ends of the guns resting on the disk 7. The disk 5 is designed to support large guns, and the disk 7 small guns, and thus different sized guns are contained and displayed in a single case. The disks are held to the shaft by set screws 11, so thatthey can be adjusted up or down as may be required. 12 are knobs secured to the periphery of the disk 5 by which the rack may-be revolved. A gun case thus formed is adapted to hold and display a large number of guus under lock and key (as the case may be locked) and free from the effects of a damp atmosphere.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination of a vertical shaft, a lower disk, secured to the shaft, having grooves in its upper face adapted to receive the butts of long guns, an intermediate disk, secured to the shaft, having grooves in its upper face adapted to receive the butts of short guns, and an upper disk secured to the shaft, having an inner series of holes adapted to receive the barrels of the short guns, and an outer series of holes adapted to receive the barrels of the long guns; substantially as described.
2. The combination of a vertical shaft, a lower disk adjustably secured to the shaft, having radial grooves in its upper face adapted to receive the butts of long guns, an intermediate disk, adj ustably secured to the shaft, having radial grooves in its upper face adapted to receive the butts of the short guns, and an upper disk secured adj ustably to the shaft, having an inner series of holes adapted` to receive the barrels of the short guns, and an outer series of holes adapted to receive the barrels of the long scribed.
