COMBINED BADGE, PENCIL, AND BOUQUET HOLDER.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO.491,614, dated February 14, 1893.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, HENRY O. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kimball, in the county of Kimball and State of Nebraska, have invented a new and useful Combined Badge, Pencil, and Bouquet Holder, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to combined badges, pencil and bouquet holders, and has for its object to provide a device of the character set forth, which may be quickly converted from one use to another, and with this object in view, the invention consists of the construction and arrrangement of the parts as Will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.

In the drawings:-Figure l is a perspective View of the improved device combined. Figs. 2, 3, and 4, are similar views of the device as arranged for its several uses as a badge, and a pencil or bouquet holder.

Similar numerals of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

Referring to the drawings, the numeral 1 designates a badge head which may be of any suitable form or material and supplied with any preferred ornamentation, and has a shank 2, of oblong form supplied with a shoe 3. At the lower portion of the badge head and adjacent to the shank thereof is located a Wire hook 4-, which assists in holding the badge in proper position and prevents it from turning or becoming displaced when the device is used as a badge alone.

As shown in Figs. 2, 3, and t, the several parts of the device may be readily disconnected and separately used and the pencil or bouquet holder consists of a coiled spring 5, having one end thereof turned into a slight hook 6, and the other end extended into the form of an attaching pin 7, which is constructed with a right angular bend 8, to hold the same in engaged position when inserted through the cloth or garment to which it maybe applied. When used as a pencil holder the said spring 5 receives the pencil through the coils thereof and when used as a bouquet holder as shown in Fig. 4 the two ends of the spring are locked together by the pin and hook as aforesaid and the stems of the bouquet are inserted through the center of the coil which produces a binding effect thereon. The Hat shank 2 of the badge pin prevents the spring from turning thereon and further, said shank when the device is used as a badge alone will prevent the badge head from being turned as the flat construction thereof will co-act with the opening through which the shoe 3 is inserted as will be readily seen and understood.

When attaching the pin to the clothing or garment it is inserted about one quarter of an inch and extended in the direction that the pencil holder is to assume when properly adjusted, and is then turned to a right angle and another insertion made and the pin thereby firmly secured against movement.

The advantages of this device entire are its simplicity, durability, ease of adjustment to any part of the clothing desired and adaptability for ornamentation.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:-

1. A device of the character set forth, consisting of a badge head having an oblong shank and a shoe on the end thereof, and a spring of coiled form surrounding said shank and having one end formed into a pin and angularly bent, substantially as described.

2. In a device of the character set forth, a badge head having a shank of oblong form with a shoe on the end thereof, and a wire hook below said shank, and a coiled spring surrounding the shank and having one end thereof formed into a pin and provided with an angular bend and the opposite end of the spring formed into a small hook, substantially as described.

3. In a device of the character set forth, the combination with a badge as set forth, of
