SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,471, dated February '7, 1893.

Application filed August 27,1892. Serial No.444,262. (No specimens.) Patented in England May 6, 1892, No. 8,591.

Be it known that I, LOUIS COX, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing at New Street, Birmingham, in the county of Warwick, England, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gloves, more especially adapted for riding and driving gloves, (for which I have obtained a patent in GreatBritain, No. 8,591, bearing date May 6, 1892,) of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements in gloves for riding and driving, and it consists of certain novel features hereinafter described and claimed.

Referenceis had to the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown a riding glove to which my invention is applied.

To effect the object of my invention I make the side parts of the fingers, termed by glove manufacturers fourchettes, of roughened or corrugated india rubber or other material having a roughened 0r corrugated surface, but preferably of india rubber. These fourchettes or side parts A are sewed or otherwise suitably attached to each side of the fingers of the glove as shown, where the reins come in contact with the latter, and having a roughened or corrugated surface thereon. In this way a very firm hold of the reins is obtained and there is no likelihood of their slipping through the fingers of the rider or driver as the roughened surface of the india rubber fourohettes effectually prevents such an 00- currence, more especially in cases when the reins become wet and consequently slippery from the weather, when my improved glove will be found particularly eifective.

\Vhat I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

An article of manufacture, to wit a glove adapted for use in riding or driving, having the body of the glove constructed in the usual way, and the side pieces of the fingers of roughened india rubber,substantially as and for the purposes described.
