Description
LNG ModeL) B- F. MBRSSMANN WASH BOILBR.
Patented Feb. '7, 1893.
PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN MERSSMANN, OF MOBERLY, MISSGURI.
WASHBOILER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,436, dated February '7, 1893.
Application filed June 25, 1892. Serial No. 438.054. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom, it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN MERssMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Moberly, in the county of Randolph and State of Missouri, have invented new and useful Improvements in Vashboilers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to that class of Wash boilers Which are designed to steam or bleach clothes and Which employ a perforated central passage for conducting the Water, when heated, and steam through the clothes, whereby they may be cleansed or bleached With greater facility, and Iny invention consists of certain features of novelty hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.
In the said drawingsz-Figure l is a vertical section of my improved boiler. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of the hood or cap of the perforated central tube. Fig. 3 is a plan viewV of the deflectors secured to the central tube or cone, and Fig. 4 is a bottom plan View of the perforated bottom and soap receptacle.
Referring to the drawings-A represents the boiler Which is provided With the detachable cover or top A Located Within the boiler is the perforated central tube or cone B provided With the cap or hood C. This cap or hood is detachably secured to the central tube or cone and is provided with a series of short tubes E Which have connection with the central tube, and are designed to conduct the steam down through the central tube or cone. The bottom of the central tube or cone is made flaring and has secured to it by means of the series of deiectors D, a perforated bottom G, and secured to the bottom is a perforated soap receptacle F. The detlectors which also serve as braces to unite the bottom to the central tube or cone, are also provided with perforations, they being so arranged as not to register with the perforations in the bottom. These deiieetors are designed to defleet the Water and steam as they come through the perforations in the bottom, so that they will strike the deliectors and pass laterally and outwardly and escape passing up through the clothes. The perforated bottom, soap re ceptaele and deflectors are elevated from the bottom of the boiler by means of four feet, H.
The operation of the device is as follows The clothes which are to be steamed or bleached are placed in the boiler, resting on the delectors and surrounding the central tube or cone. The cap or hood of the central tube is removed and a sufficient quantity of soap is dropped through the tube to the perforated receptacle, which is immersed in Water in the bottom of the boiler, and the Whole placed over a fire. The boiling Water and steam then passes through the perforations in the bottom and defiectors and passes up on the inside and outside of the central tube and through the cap or hood, thus producing a constant current of water and steam through the clothes, which thoroughly Washes and bleaches the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- 1. In a Wash boiler, the combination of the boiler the perforated central tube provided with a hood located therein, a perforated bottom, a series of deflectors connecting the perforated bottom to the central tube, and a perforated soap receptacle secured to the perforated bottom substantially as shown and described.
2. In a wash boiler, the combination of the boiler, the perforated central tube located therein, a cap or hood provided with a series of tubes detachably secured thereto, a perforated bottom, having a perforated soap receptacle secured thereto, a series of deflectors, and suitable means for elevating the perforated bottom and deectors from the bottom of the boiler, substantially as set forth.
BENJAlllIN FRANKLIN MERSSMANN.
