Description

(No Model.)
W. BODENBROWN, Jr. TYPE WRITING MACHINE.
, Patented Feb. 7, 1893.
NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM BODENBROWN, JR, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
TYPE-WRITING MACHINE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 491,072, dated February 7, 1893.
Application filed April 22, 1892.
To a. whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM BODENBROWN, Jr., of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Type-Writing Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accom panying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan View, illustrating my invention; and Fig. 2 is an end view of what is shown in Fig. 1.
My invention consists in the combination of a platen with a straight edge extending lengthwise of the platen with an edge contiguous thereto and means for adjusting the straight edge toward and away from the platen.
In the drawings, a is a platen and b the straight edge which is mounted in any suitable manner so as to extend lengthwise the platen with one of its edges contiguous to the platen. One way of mounting the straight edge I) is to provide it with angular arms b and set screws 1) which pass through the arms I) and clamp the straight edge, adj ustably, to the journals or of the platen. The adjustability of the straight edge from and toward the platen is a matter of very great importance as the space between the platen and Serial No. 430,164. (No model.)
straight edge, one function of which is to serve as a paper cutter, frequently needs to be increased to permit several thicknesses of paper and transfer sheets being passed between them for manifolding.
Myinvention is especially applicable in machines which print one paper from a supply reel, but is, of course applicable in machines WILLIAM BODENBROWN, JR.
