Description

No. 49,000. PATENTED JULY 25, 1865. L
W. R. POMEROY. GUIDE TO KEYHOLESH UNITED STATES W; R. POMEROY, OF MILLER'SBURG, OHIO.
GUIDE TO KEY-HOLES.
, Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 59,000, dated J nly 25, 1865.
. To ail 'w/mmz't may concern.
. Beit known that I, W. R. POMERQY, of Millershurg, in the county of Holmes, in the State of Ohio, have invented a new and Improved Flange for Key-Holes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of refer"- ence marked thereon.
The nature of-my invention consists in providing-the key-holeof any door or look with a flaring metallic flange, the same having at the center or bottom thereof an orifice corresponding exactly in shape and size and communicating with the aforesaid key-hole in the. door or lock,so that when itis desirable to insert the key by placing it atany point within. the rim of said flange it will slide directlydown the inclined sides thereof and enter theoriijce or key-hole without hinderance, thereby obviating the ditficulty attendant upon inserting a key into a lock in the dark.
metal, having the interior surface, B, Fig. 1, to incline or converge from the outer rim, 0, toward and terminate at the central orifice or key-hole, A. The lower face of the interior surface, D,.Fig. 1, should be nearly orquite on a level with the lower ed geof the-orifieeA, so that the shaft of the key will always enter at its corresponding part of the orifice I attach the flange t0 the door or look in such a manner that the rim C will project outward and the orifice A will communicate perfectly with the key-hole of the lock.
' Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a door-lock, with the flange F shown as a part of and continuous with the outer plate of the same.
The object of this invention is to facilitate the insertion o'fa key into a look by giving it a wider'range of application, using for that purpose aflaring metallic flange, substantially the same as above described.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The flan gel or other similar device, when arranged and applied in the manner and for the purpose described.
