UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE JOHN B. DAVIDS, OF NORTH DARTMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO E. M. CHISHOLM DAVIDS, OF SAME PLACE.
GAME-BOARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,851, dated January 10, 1893.
Application filed June 18, 1892- Seria1ITo-437A27. (N0 model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN B. DAVIDS, a citizen of the United States, residing at North Dartmouth, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and novel Game Board, of which the following is a specification.
The accompanying drawings illustrate my invention, in which- Figure 1. is a plan view of my game board, Figs. 2 and 3. are side views of a portion of the detail of the board; and Fig. at. is a view in longitudinal section, through the dotted line 03,50.
Similar letters refer to similar parts in the several views.
a, represents the base of my game board having one end rounded to a half circle; in the upper surface of which, are cup shaped depressions 'y, y, and e. Around the outer edge of the board, is the raised edge cand c. The upper surface of the board a. is provided with the raised edge m, the deflector f, and raised edges 9, and g. The edges g. and g. and the deflector f. form parts of a circle having openings h,; whose center, is the cup e.
i, represents a raised edge, forming some what more than a half circle, and disposed midway between the cup e. and the circle formed by the raised edges g. g, and deflector 0 f; and with its open side, toward the rounded or upper end 1'). of the board a, and having its ends slightly flaring outward. Opposite the open side of the raised edge 1', is secured the deflector 70. Parallel with the raised edge 7a,, and abutting against the edges 0', are secured the raised edges Z, and Z, having their upper ends curving outward, in the direction of the ends of the raised edges d, and d, which are continuations of the circular form of the top of the board; and leaving the openings h, between them.
0, represents a device for impelling two balls, along the alleys n, n, formed by the raised edges Z, Z, and m, and consists of the angular part 0', whose ends are provided with holes in which slides the bar 19, having the handle q.; and head 0", provided with concavities b. The bar 1). is further provided with the pin or stop 15, between which and the rear of the angles 0', is interposed the spiral spring 3, surrounding the bar; so that when the handle q, is drawn backward, and released, the spring 5, impels the bar 19, suddenly forward. Between the shoulder of the handle (1. and the angle 0'. is interposed the pad q, as a buffer.
it, represents an arm, hinged to the raised edge of the upper end of the board, having its free end provided with a circle or cup, adapted to hold a ball w, lightly, in position.
a, z, are short raised edges abutting against the raised edge 0', and forming stalls at the lower end of the board. The under side of the upper end of the board, a, is provided with means to hold the board a, in a slightly V inclined position.
The game, played by means of the above described game board; I call Oiento. It is played by three balls, one of which is lightly held in position by the arm u. The other balls are placed against the head 1*. of the device 0, and by means of the spring, are impelled along the alleys n, 41,; the object being, to cause them to ascend to the top of the board; strike, and release the ball w, and one or more of them, to roll through the upper opening h onto the deflector k, and from thence carom on one of the curved ends of the edge 'Z, and roll into the cup 6.; which is the highest count in the game. If a ball is caused to lodge within the edge i; it is next to the high est count. If a ball is caused to lodge on the deflector f. it is next but one to the highest count. If a ball rolls through the openings h, and lodges in one of the cups y. it is a different count; and it it lodges in one of the stalls at the bottom of the board it is still a different count.
I claim 1. A game board constructed for operation as herein shown and described, consisting of an inclined board, having an outer raised edge, forming a half circle at one end; and provided with interior raised edges, forming concentric circles, having openings, around a cup shaped depression in the head of the board; and forming a central double alley way leading to the spaces between said concentric circles; in combination with means for impelling a ball or balls, along said alley ways.
2. A game board adapted to rest in an inor balls, along the central alley Ways n, n, all clined p osition; having the outer raised edges as shown and described. 0, and c and the interior raised edges 2}; g, V and g d, and d; Z, and l,; m,; and z; and JOHN DAVIDS' 5 provided with the deflector f, and 7c; and pro- Witnesses:
Vided with the arm 10, and cups 0, and "51,; in JAMES C. HITCH, combination with means for impelling a ball HENRY W. MASON.
