Description

(No Model.)
w. J. TEUFEL. ABDOMINAL GORSBT.
No..489,698. Patented Jan. 10, 1893.
WITNESSES:
J Starts WILI-IELM JUL. TEUFEL, OF STUTTGART, GERMANY.
ABDOMINAL CORSET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,698, dated January 10, 1893.
Application filed April 13, 1892'. Serial No. 1 (N0 modem To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILHELM J ULIUs TEUFEL, a citizen of the Empire of Germany, and a resident of the city of Stuttgart, in the Kingdom of Wiirtemberg and Empire of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Abdominal Corsets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in abdominal corsets, by which the weight of the abdomen is supported in an effective and comfortable manner from the hips of the person: and the invention consists of a corset, the sections of which are provided at their lower front parts with abdominal-extensions, to the sides of which are attached hipstraps that are extended over the hips and back and connected with each other. The hip-straps cross each other at the back and are retained at the lower front part of the corset by hooks attached to said extensions, as will be fully described hereinafter and finally pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective-view of my improved abdominal corset, shown as applied to a female. Fig. 2 is arear-view of the corset, and Figs. 3 and at are perspective-views of both sections of the corset, showing the hipstraps of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
Referring to the drawings, A A represent the sections of a corset, which are extended at their front-parts in downward direction for a sufficient length to extend over the abdomen. The sections A A are provided with busks and stays in the usual manner, the busks being connected by clasps of any approved construction. To the abdominal extensions a a of the sections A A are attached the wider ends of hip-straps B B, which are extended over the hips, around at the back, as shown in Fig. 2 and buckled to each other at the lower parts of the extensions a a, they being retained on the same by hooks b b, which serve to hold the front-ends of the hipstraps B B in position at the lower ends of the extensions do. The hip-strap B is divided into two parts or bands, while the hipstrap B is formed of one tapering-band, which latter is passed through between the bands of the hip-strap B, after both straps are passed around the hips, so that the straps B B interlace at the back, as shown in Fig. 2, they being then brought down in front over the lower part of the extensions of the corset, passed under the retaining-hooks b b and connected with each other by means of a buckle d or other fastening-device, as shown in Fig. 1. By the arrangement of the hip-straps the abdomen is firmly supported and the Weight of the same transferred to the hips and back, so that a very comfortable and closely fitting abdominal support is obtained in connection with the corset.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
An abdominal-corset, composed of two sections, which are provided at their lower frontparts with abdominal extensions, retaininghooks on said extensions, and hip-straps attached to the sides of said extensions, one strap being divided 1nto two bands, while the other strap is made tapering so as to pass through the bands of the first strap, said hipstraps intercrossing and extending in upward direction over the hips and back to the lower front parts of the abdominal extensions Where they are connected with each other and retained by the front-hooks, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as
