EAVES-TROUGH HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,600, dated January 10, 1893.
Application filed May 18, 1892. Serial No. 483,434. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, LEWIs S. BONBRAKE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Waynesburg, in the county of Stark and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Eaves-Trough Hanger, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in eaves trough hangers.
The object of the present invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive eaves trough hanger, by which an eaves trough may be readily adjusted to a roof.
The invention consists in the construction and novel combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the'drawings-Figure 1 is a perspective view of aportion of an eaves trough provided with a hanger constructed in accordance with this invention. Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional View. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the cross-bar. Fig. 4 is a detail perspective View illustrating the manner of securing the rear end of the cross-bar to the eaves trough.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the draw- 1ngs.
1 designates an eaves trough provided at its front edge with a bead 2, and having its longitudinal edges connected by a cross-bar 3 from the center of which projects a vertically disposed plate 4 adapted to be secured by a bolt 5 to a roof strap, whereby the eaves trough is suspended from a roof. The crossbar 3 has its front end 6 hooked, and engaging over the bead 2, and its rear end is provided with a vertical loop 7 which receives the rear edge of the eaves trough. The cross-bar 3 is provided with tongues 8 arranged on opposite sides of the loop 7, and extending through openings of the trough and bent against the rear portion 9 of the'loop 7. This rear portion 9 of the loop 7 has its lower end 10 bent inward against the trough which is thereby slightly indented, whereby the adjacent end of the cross-bar 3 is firmly and securely fastened to the trough. The front end of the cross-bar is provided with a lug 11, which is formed by striking a portion of the metal of the cross-bar downward and which prevents the bead 2 of the trough moving inward and the parts collapsing.
The vertically disposed plate 4 is provided at its lower end with tongues 12, which are passed through openings 13 of the cross-bar and which are bent against the lower face of the same; and the said plate is provided with a vertical series of openings 14, any one of which is adapted for the reception of the bolt 5, whereby the hanger may be adjusted vertically .to suit the roof strap 15 and the latter may also be provided with perforations to increase the adjustment.
What I claim is 1. The combination with an eaves trough having a bead at its front side, of a cross-bar provided at its front end with a hook engaging the bead and having at its rear end a vertical loop to receive the rear side of the trough and provided with tongues arranged at opposite sides of the loop and extending through the trough and bent against the rear portion of the loop, substantially as described.
2. The combination of an eaves trough provided at its front side with a bead, a crossbar havingits front end provided with a hook to engage the bead and with a depending lug to prevent the bead moving inward and provided at its rear end with a loop to receive the rear side of the eaves trough, and having tongues arranged at the base of the loop and passing through the back of the trough and preventing the disengagementof the loop, and a vertical plate rising from the cross-bar and provided with means for adj ustmeut, and adapted to be secured to a roof strap or the like, substantially as described.
