J. HYMANS,
PIGTURE HANGER.
No. 489,160. Patented Jan. 3, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JosEPH'HYMANs, oF DEL Rio, TEXAS.
PICTURE-HANGER.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 489,160, dated January 3, 1898,
Application iiled July 1, 1892. Serial No. 438.674. (No model.)
.To a/ZZ whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HYMANS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Del Rio, in the county of Val Verde and State of Texas,
5 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Picture-Frames and Like Articles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to hangers for picture and other frames.
The. object of my invention is to provide a hanger adapted to support the picture or other frame at the top and bottom thereof, the upper support to be adjustable and adapted to hold, and project the frame rigidly at any desired angle from the Walll or ceiling, and the lower support to be adjustable to meet the dii-ferent sizes of frames. It' is also my object to provide a hanger adapted for suspension from the ceiling, or from the side walls, or from both ceilings and side walls.
It is also my object to provide a hanger which shall fend the frame from contact with the wall 'and also hold the frame securely and rigidly in position.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a perspective View of a picture frame showing my hanger attached thereto. And Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the hanger secured to the wall and ceiling.
The frame of the hanger is composed of a single piece of wire forming a horizontal suspender bar A and elongated arms B B bent at right angles, thereto, said arms again bent laterally at points taken on a line X X of Fig. 2 spreading the lower ends apart.
C C denote hooks or rests formed on the lower or free ends of the arms B.
D denotes a yoke formed of a single piece of Wire and having eyes E E, formed in cach end, these eyes are adapted to receive and be threaded over the rests C C and up upon the arms B B the ends of the said arms'being first pressed together to meet the eyes.
F denotes a Wire rod having its end bent around the center of the suspender bar A. in a groove or slight depression formed in said bar in which said rod is freeto turn, the purpose of the groove being to prevent any lateral play, said rod has a hook f upon its outer end.
G denotes a'fiat metal br having a shoulder g formed in one end which4 is provided with a perforation h to admit the passage of the rod F, h h denote perforations in sard bar which receive the hook f, and serve to ceiling, as sho\vn,either or both sets of hooks may be used, depending upon the l size or weight of the frame.
T o hang a picture frame, the rests or hooks C C are first adjusted to the desired width by operating the sliding yoke up or down, the lower part of frame is then placed in said rests, and the hook K secured in the perfora* tion h2 of the bar G. The desired angle of pitch from the wall is then given and the hook f secured in one of the perforations h of the bar G.
It is evident that my frame hanger is equally valuable for hanging mirrors.
l-laving shown and described my invention what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A hanger for picture frames or like articles consisting of a horizontal hanger bar having dependent fiexible legs formed integral therewith, said legs being bent laterally apart at a point about midway of their length, and having hooks or rests formed in their lower ends. A sliding yoke for adjustingand holding in position the lower or bent portions of said legs in combination with an adjustable top support adapted to hold and project the frame at an angle from the wall.
In testimony whereof I'aftix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH HYMANS.
Witnesses:
