I. W. McKINLEY.
DRINK MIXER.
Patented Jan. 3, 1893.
auoewtov w, I I mm,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FRANKLIN W. MCKIXLEY, OF MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE, ASSIGXOR OF ONE-HALF TO GEORGE E.
PHILBRICK, OF SAME PLACE.
DRINK-MIXER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N0. 489,028, dated January 3, 1893. Application filed January 10. 1891- Serla No. 377,326. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I. FRASKLIX W. MCKIX- LEY, a citizen of Manchester, in the county of Hillsborough and State of New Hampshire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drink-Mixers; audIdo hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to an improvement in drink mixers, and is designed more particularly for mixing carbonated beverages,-its object being to produce a device by means of which the beverage or drink may be efiectually and thoroughly mixed during the operation of drawing the same from the fountain or cask.
A further object is to produce a device adapted to be attached to the draft tube of any soda water apparatus, by means of which the soda water and syrup will be thoroughly mixed during the operation of drawing the soda water.
A further object is to provide a device for the purpose stated, which shall be simple in construction, efiectual in the performance of its functions and which shall be ornamental in appearance.
With these objects in view the invention consists in the combination with a draft tube or faucet, of a mixer attached thereto.
It further consists in the combination with a draft tube or faucet, of a mixer attached thereto and adapted to be operated by the pas age throng it of the carbonated liquid.
The invention further consists in the novel combination, construction and arrangements of parts as hereinafter set forth and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a view of my improved mixer. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a sectioual view, and Fig. 4 is a view of the divided sleeve.
A represents atube provided at its top with a disk B having a screwthreaded periphery for the reception of a similarly threaded divided collar 0. The divided collar 0 is provided exteriorly with screwthreads for the reception of a nut D. The divided collar will be provided at its top with a flange a, for re taining a washer b in position on the disk B. By means of a coupling thus constructed the device may be applied to draft tubes or fancets of difierent sizes.
Projecting from the tube A near its lower end and communicating therewith, is a series of short curved tubes or outlets c,all of said tubes or outlets 0 being curved to project in the same direction, as shown in Fig. l. Loosely mounted on the portion (1 of the tube A below the tubes or outlets c, is an agitator wheel E having propeller blades e, adapted to be propelled by the act-ion of the liquid flowing through the tubes or outlets c,said propeller blades being provided on their up per edges with notches f, so that the agitator wheel may be located in close proximity to the outlet tubes, without liability of contact therewith. The tube A is closed at a point below the tubes or outlets c, and is provided internally with screwthreads for the reception of a screw g, which carries a plate or se ries of arms h. The plate or arms 72. acts to retain the agitator wheel in position and at the same time serves as a rest or support for the device within the glass or other receptacle into which the beverage is being drawn. With the device thus constructed and attached to the draft tube of a soda water or other apparatus-the desired syrup is first put into the glass and the soda or other liquid drawn into it through my improved mixer. The liquid in passing out through the outlets or tubes 0 acts against the blades of the agitator and propels it, thereby thoroughly min ing the syrup with the liquid being drawn. This device, it will be observed, avoids the necessity of the use of a fine and a coarse stream in a soda water apparatus, and it also avoids the necessity for the use of mixers used separate from the draft apparatus, and also obviates the necessity of mixing drinks by pouring from one glass into another. By the use of my device all the gas is retained in the beverage, there being no chance for its escape as in other mixers of which I am aware.
It is evident that slight changes might be made in the details of construction of my invention without departing from the spirit thereof or limiting its scope, hence I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of construction herein set forth, but,
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A drink mixer constructed and adapted for attachmentto a soda water fountain, said mixer comprising a tube having outlets, an agitator wheel adapted to receive liquid from said outlets, and a plate to retain said agitator wheel in position and form a rest for the device, substantially as set forth.
2. A drink mixer constructed and adapted for attachmentto a soda water fountain, said mixer comprising a main tube, branch tubes leading laterally therefrom, and an agitator wheel loosely mounted on the tube and provided with blades in position to receive the liquid from the branch tubes approximately 2c at right angles, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with a draft tube or faucet, of a tube attached thereto,an agitator wheel in the form of a screw propeller mounted on said tube, outlets or tubes communicating with said tube and adapted to discharge against the blades of said wheel, and a plate secured to the first mentioned tube to retain the agitator in place on said tube and form a rest for the device, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
FRANKLI W. MCKINLEY.
