.To all whom/ it may concern:

Be it known that I, BARTLETT MOINTIRE, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, State of California, have invented an Improvement in Clips for Wile Ropeways; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.

My invention relates to that class of clips designed for connecting load -carriers with endless traveling ropeways, in which the end of the body portion of the clip makes connection with the cable by entering between its strands. These ropeways are designed for I 5 the transportation of material from one point to another. The material is contained in suitable carriers or receptacles suspended by means of hangers from clips which are connected with the wire rope or cable of the way. These clips are made to connect with the cable in various ways. Some forms of clips were provided with flexible leaves connected with the body portion and embracing and encircling the cable and clamped thereon. Other clips were made, some to enter and some to pass through the cable between its strands.

My present clip belongs, as before stated, to that class in which the end of the body portion of the clip enters between the strands of the cable; and it consists in a clip having the end of its body portion provided on its under surface with a groove, on its upper surface with a groove, both grooves being inclined or spirally directed, and its extremity beyond said grooves formed in a straight hook. The end of the clip enters the cable, its grooves partially embracing and conforming to the lay of adjacent strands and its book end partially embracing the soft core or heart of the cable.

The object of my invention is to provide a simple and effective clip adapted to be readily and firmly connected with the cable of a wire ropeway.

Referring to the accompanying drawings for a more complete explanation of myinvention, Figure 1 is aperspective view of my clip. Fig. 2 is an end View of the same, showing its engagement with the cable, which latter is in cross-section.

The clip has a body portion A and a shaft portion B. These parts, as far as my present invention is concerned, may be integral or jointed. (Here shown as jointed.) The end of the body portion A is made on its under side with the groove a beyond, which on its upper side is formed a groove 0., which is succeeded by a hook-shaped end a Both grooves are formed at an inclination or spiral conforming to the direction or lay of the strands of the cable, while the hook-shaped end is made straight to conform to the direction' of the heart or soft core of the cable.

In Fig. 2, wherein is shown its connection with the cable C, it will be seen that the clip is fitted to it by having its first or under groove a partially embracing the nearest strand of the cable below, its second or top groove a passing under and partially embracing the upper adjacentstrand of the cable, both go grooves conforming to the layof said strands by reason of their spiral direction, while the straight hooked end a of the clip passes around and partially embraces and engages the soft core or heartc of the cable, which has not therefore to be removed, as isthe case with those clips in which the end of the body portion of the clip is formed with a cylindrical piece, which takes the place ofthe soft core or heart. My clip thus makes a simple and perfect connection with the cable.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. A clip for wire ropeways, having a body portion the end of which is adapted to enter between the strands of the cable and is formed with a hook on its extremity for fitting over the soft core or heart of said cable, substantially as herein described. 0

2. A clip for wire ropeways, having a body portion the end of which is adapted to enter the cable, said end having grooves for engaging and fitting the cable-strands and a hook on its extremity for fitting over the soft core or heart of said cable, substantially as herein described.
