Description

(No Model.)
P. BENSON. MUSIC RACK ATTACHMENT FOR GUITARS, &o.
No. 487,820. Patented Dec. 13, 1892.
UNITED STATES I PATE T OFFICE.
PETER BENSON, OF MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA.
MUSlC-RACK ATTACHMENT FOR GUITARS, 80c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 487,820, dated December 13, 1892.
Application filed June 14, 1892. Serial No. 436,698. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, PETER BENSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Henuepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Music-Rack Attachments for Guitars, &c., of which the following is a specification.
' My invention has for its object the providing of a convenient device adapted to be attached to a guitar or other musical instrument for supporting a music-rack;
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a guitar, showing the music-rack support attached; and Fig. 2 is an elevation, partly sectional, 0f the device and a portion of the musical instrument.
In the drawings, 1 designates a portion of a guitar or other musical instrument having a sound-hole 2. The device for supporting a music-holder consists of a vertical stem 3, to
which a music rack or holder 4 of any suitable construct-ion may be adjustably secured by means of a set-screw 5 or in any convenient way. The stem is bent, as at 6, so that its upper portion is made to stand up at the side of the instrument. The lower portion of the stem is flattened to constitute a broad bearing-surface 7 for engaging the side of the instrument, and immediately above this .flattened portion is a hollow lateral arm 8. In
to form a hook 13 for engaging the edge of the sound-hole ot' the instrument. The contact-surfaces of the plate 7 and the hook 13 should be lined with rubber 14 or other suitable material to prevent marring the instrument.
The operation of the device, when placed in position, as shown in the drawings, is probably apparent. The turning of the nut 12 is all that is required to secure the device firmly in place on the instrument or to free it for removal.
Having described my invention, what I claim is' 1 An attachment for musicalinstruments for supporting a music-rack, consisting of an upright stem having a flattened lower portion for engaging the side of an instrument, a hollow lateral arm above the broad portion, a rod arranged to slide in such arm and having a hook for engaging an opening in the instrument, and a screw for operating the rod to clamp the upright stem to the instrument, substantially as set forth;
. PETER BENSON.
