J. M. GLOVER.
. MOLDING-- No. 485,377. Patented Nov. 1, 1892.
W/TNESSES: INVENTOHA A TTORN E Y.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES M. GLOVER, OF RIOIIMOND, INDIANA.
MOLDING SPECIFICATION forming partof Letters Patent No. 485,377, dated November 1, 1892.
Application filed April 7, 1892. Serial No. 428,134. (No model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs M. GLOVER, a citizen of the United States, residingat Richmond in the county of Wayne and Statepf Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Moldings; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to that class of moldings which are covered with cloth and used in the construction of caskets and coffins.
My invention consists in a molding for caskets or coffins covered with a fabric cut to apattern corresponding to the angles of the molding for one-half of the longitudinal dimensions of the casket or coflin at one end and applied to the molding unbroken.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a top plan view of a molding finish for the end of a casket or coffin. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section of the same.
In Fig. 1, D D represents the molding in the form in which it is applied to the end of a casket or OOffll]. a a a a are the corners of the angles, where the straightpieees composing the molding are mitered together. b is the center line of the head'of the molding and shows the joint where the cloth covering each lateral one-half of the molding meets. A A are the inside lines of the molding, where it is attached to the casket or coffin.
The cloth to be used in covering the molding is cut in a pattern or form to correspond with the width and length and form of the molding from b to c,with excess in width sufficient to lap over and cover the edges n n, Fig. 2. The cloth so cut out and formed is then treated with the proper adhesive prepa ration and manipulated into position, producing a smooth unbroken surface over the angle-corners a aand meetingin a plain contact-joint at b.
B B shows that part of the molding not covered by the cloth.
The figures 1 2 3 representthe angles of the molding in sections.
Having thus fully described my said improvement, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1 The combination, with a molding foracasket or coffin, of afabric for covering the same, said fabric being out to apattcrn corresponding to the angles of the molding for one-half of the longitudinal dimensions of the casket or coffin at one end and applied thereto by an adhesive preparation, thereby producing a smooth unbroken surface over the anglecorners of the molding, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JAMES M. GLOVER.
