UNITED STATES PATENT I OFFICE.
AUGUST JANZON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
WASH-STAN D.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 485,040, dated October 25, 1892.
Application filed August 13 1891. Serial No. 402,551. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, AUGUST JANzoN, of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and Improved lVash-Stand, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming a part thereof, in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved wash-stand. Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse section. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section taken on line m a: in Fig. 1, showing the washstand closed. Fig. 4 is a horizontal section showing the wash-stand open, and Fig. 5 is a front elevation of a combined washstand and writing-desk.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
The object of the invention is to construct a Wash-stand which may be readilyopened for use or that may be closed up when not in use, and which when closed will represent a bureau, desk, or other ornamental piece of furniture.
My invention consists in a casing provided with a reversible front, having pivots at the top and bottom, and carrying on its inner surface two shelves, preferably of circular form, one for supporting the wash-bowl and the other for supporting the slop-pail, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims.
The casingA (shown in Fig. l) is in the form of the body of a bureau, and the front 15 is made in three panels, representing the front of bureau-drawers, and the said front is pivoted at the top and bottom in the front of the casing on central pivots a, so that it may be reversed in the casing. To the inner face of the front B are secured two shelves 0 d, connected by the vertical boards 6. The upper shelf 0 is apertured to receive the Wash-bowl C, and the lower shelf (1 is designed to receive the slop-pail D.
When it is desired to use the wash-bowl, the front B is reversed, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, thus projecting the shelves 0 d beyond the front of the casing A. After use the frontB is returned to its original position, carrying the shelves c (1 into the casing A and concealing the bowl C and slop-pail, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3.
In the form shown in Fig. 5 the lower portion of the casing A is arranged as already described, while the upper portion is arranged to serve as a writing-desk.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A wash-stand comprising a casinghaving its entire front open and provided with a front plate pivoted at its center by top and bottom pivots in the said opening, the said front plate being of a size to close the opening and pro vided with two shelves projecting one above the other from itsinner surface, substantially as described.
2. The herein described wash-stand,consisting of the casing A, having its entire front open, and the front plate B, pivoted at its center by top and bottom pivots in the said opening and closing the same and provided with the semicircular shelves 0 d, secured to its inner surface one above the other and connected together by the vertical boards e, the shelf 0 being apertured, as specified.
