IMPROVED MEAT-CHOPPING MACHINE.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48,451, dated June 27, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, GEORGE W. SARGENT. and PLUMER H. OHEsLEY, of Chelsea, in the county of Sufi'olk and State of Massachusetts, haveinvented new and useful Improvementsin Machinesfor OhoppingMeat, Fish, and Vegetatables; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being bad to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective View. Fig. 2 represents a section of the tub in which the meat is chopped, together with the block in the bottom of the tub; also, thestandard orpost which passes through the center of the tub, by which the tub is guidedin its rotary motion, and also the ratchet by which the tub is given its rotary motion; Fig. 3 represents the rod to which the knives are attached, the chamber on the rod, the crank-shaft acting in the chamber giving the knives, as shown, their upward and downward motion; also, the set-screw used to adjust the knives, as occasion may-require.
The nature of our invention consist in constructing a frame, l, together with a guide, 0, at the top of the machine; also, another guide, 7", near the center of the machine, by which the knife-rod is confined in its upward and downward motion, the crank-shaft a being placed in the chambers n on the knife-rods b, so that, upon turning it with the crank 0, each angle of the crank-shaft a, actingin the chambers n on the knife-rods b, causes, as shown, the movement ofthe kni vesg by which they come in contact with the block on, thereby chopping the meat.
