Description

UNITED STATES,L
PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH BUOKETT, OFI'NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND L. W. WARNER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVED BREAD-CUTTER.
l Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 48,127, dated-lune 6, 1865.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, JOSEPH BUCKET'I, of the city, county, and State of NewYork, have invented a new and Improved Device for Cutting Bread and other Substances; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description' thereof, which will enable others skilled. in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specilication, in which- Figure lis a side elevation of my invention Fig. 2, an end View of the sume.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
This invention consists in the employment or use of a cutter, of circular form, attached eccentrically to a shaft placed on a suitable framing, the cutter Working between plates which have au opening made in them, into which the article or substance to be cut is fed to the cutter, the Aframe or table on which the article being cut is placed having a holder ap plied `to it composed of a series of jointed plates, all arranged as hereinafter set forth, whereby the desired work may be accom plshed with the greatest facility.
A represents a framing or table, on which a shaft, B, is placed horizontally, with a crank, C, on its outer end, and D is a cutter, of circular form, which is placed eccentrically on the shaft B. The cutter D may be a complete circle or a portion of the same, and it is fitted and rotates between two plates, E E, at the end of the framing A, said plates being at such a distance apart as to allow the cutter to move freely between them, but still not admit of any lateral play or movement of the cutter. The plates E E have an opening, F, made in them, as shown clearly in Fig. 2, the lower edge of the same being on a level with the platform or bed of the table, and the opening being in such a part of the plates that the cutter D will pass entirely through it in avertical direction.
G represents a holder, which is composed ot' a series of plates, a., connected together by joints b, so that it may be placed over the bread or other article to be cut on the table, one end of the holder being attached to the table. The article is shoved along under the holder G by the thumb or finger, and thus fed into the opening F, where it is cut or sliced by the cutter D as the latter rotates. The circular cutter cuts with a drawing or oblique cut,.and hence the machine may be operated with a small expenditure of power.
I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent- The combination, with the eccentric circular cutter D, protecting-plates EE, shaft B, open-` ing F of the holder Gr, composed of a series of plates, a, connected by joints b, substantially as and for the purposes described.
JOSEPH BUCKETT.
