CHARLES W. LAWRENCE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
COMBINED SOCKET AND BRACKET FOR CURTAIN-RODS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 484,028, dated October 11, 1892.
Application filed J'une 22.1892. Serla1No.437,584. camel.)
.To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES W. LAWRENCE, a resident of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented an Improved Oom bined Socket and Bracket for Curtain-Rods, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in combined sockets and brackets for curtain-rods; and it consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
The object of this invention is to produce a curtain-rod holder which shall serve as a bracket on the face of the window-frame or as a socket on the inner side of the frame, as may be desired, so as to render it unnecessary for the consumer to obtain special sockets for the inside of" the frame and special brackets for the outside of the frame, as was heretofore necessary.
Like letters refer to like parts in the several figures of the drawings, in which- Figure l is a front view showing my device applied as a bracket on the outside of the frame. Fig. 2 is a transverse section on line 2 2 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front view showing my device applied as a socket on the inner portion of the framework. Fig. 4 is a transverse section on the line 44 of Fig. 3. Fig. 5 is a plan View of the blank from which my improved socket and bracket is made.
My combined socket and bracket is preferably struck up from a single piece of sheet metal and has the base-flange ct perforated, as shown at b b, of which perforations there maybe two or more for the reception of fastening-screws for fastening the device to the inside or outside of the framework. Its body portion 0 is bent at right angles to the basefiange a and is provided with an upper lip or flange d, which is bent at right angles to the body portion and which may project either over the base-flange or away from the same. Through the blank, as it lies flat, Fig. 5, are punched two apertures. The one nearest the base has a narrow middle portion'e, a wider outer portion f, and a wider inner portion g. The blank when folded into form is bent on the line at which the portion f joins the narrow slot e. Hence in the'complete structure the narrowslot e and its inner enlargement g willbe in the body portion 0, (see Fig. 3,) while the enlargement f will be in the lip (Z. (See Fig. 4.) The other aperture of the blank has a narrow neck It, open at the outer edge of the lip (55, and an inner enlargement 'i, which is similar to the enlargement g.
The curtain-rod A has a headed at each end. I
-When the article is to be used as a bracketthat is, on the outer face of the frame B-the head of the gudgeon j is inserted through the enlarged slot f, so that the neck of the gudgeon can pass through the narrow slot 6 into the enlargement g, resting, finally, in the lower end of the latter, all as indicated in Figs. 1 and 2. When, however, the article is to be used as a socket -that is, on the inner side of the frame B-the neck of the gudgeon enters in the narrow slot 72. and finally rests in the enlargement as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4. The final receiving-slots i and g, extending equally far above and below the entering slots h 6, respectively, render the device reversible, so that no rights and lefts are required.
The invention is applicable to various kinds of curtain-rods, whether they are of given lengths or extensible, large diameter or of small diameter, provided such curtain-rods have headed end pins or gudgeons for engagement with the improved combined socket and bracket.
Having described my invention, What I claim is- The combined socket and bracket consisting of the body 0 and lip d, the body having narrow slot 6 and enlarged slot g, and the lip cl, having enlarged slot f, communicating with the narrow slot e, and having, also, the narrow slot h and its enlargement t', substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and de scribed.
CHAS. W. LAl/VRENOE.
