BOX-SUPPORTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,751, dated October 4, 1892.

To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTON DUANE SMITH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Prophetstown, in the count-y of Whiteside and State of Illinois, haveinvented a new and useful Box-Supporter, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a box supporter or prop for the purpose of displaying the contents of the box; and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the parts thereof, as will be more fully hereinafter described and claimed.
The object of this invention is to providea device of the character set forth which is adapted for use in a show-window, show-case, or counter or in any other position desired for the purpose of fully exhibiting the contents of a box or analogous device, wherein. the parts are simple and effective in the construction and arrangement, strong and durable, easily handled, cheaply manufactured, and readily transported.
In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing a box supported by the improved device in position to display the contents thereof. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device detached. Fig. 8 is an edge elevation of the device shown folded. Fig. 4 is a modification of the device.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, the numerals 1 and 2 designate the legs of the device, which may be constructed of wood, stiff paper, metal, or other suitable material, which are hingedly connected at top and bottom by webs or strips 3 and 40f heavy paper, cloth,leather, or other flexible material. The leg 1 forms a support against which the box rests, and the leg 2 a brace or stay for the said leg 1. On the upper end of the leg 2 is secured a plate or metallic strip 5, having serrations at its upper edge, and, as shown more clearly in Figs. 2 and 3, it is formed with a looped or bent flange 7, which is securely connected to the sa d leg 2. shape and embraces the end of the leg 2. As shown in Fig. 4, the plate 6 is formed with bent lips 8 at the ends thereof, which embrace 5 the leg 2 in a similar manner. The box resting against the leg 1 has its bottom portion engaged by the serrations 6, and is thereby prevented from slipping or dislodgin g from its position. Owing to the flexible connection heretofore set forth the legs l'and 2 may be readily folded against each other and rendered compact in form for storage or transportation.
Owing to the simplicity of construction the device can be readily manufactured at a small cost and cheaply placed upon the market.
The conveniences and advantages of a device of this character are manifold and selfevident to those requiring the use of such an ticle and need not be further enlarged upon herein.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is- 1. As an improved article of manufacture, 7 a box supporter or prop having legs with a serrated portion at the upper part thereof, substantially as described.
2. In abox supportor prop, the combination of two legs connected by flexible webs or strips and a metallic plate connected to the upper end of one of said legs and having serrations, substantially as described.
In a box support or prop, the combination of two legs connected by flexible webs or strips at the bottom and top portions thereof and a metallic plate embracing the upper end of one of said legs, substantially as described.
4. A box support or prop consisting of legs flexibly connected together and having serrations or teeth at the top, as set forth.
