LAM P-STOVE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,591, dated October 4, 1892.

Application led June 28, 1890.

To all whom it may concern:

3e it known that I, SARAH L. WALKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Bloornville, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Lamp- 'tove, of which the following is a specificaion.

This invention relates to stoves and furnaces, and more particularly to that class thereof known as lamp-stoves, and its ob- Ject is to provide a stove of this character l having compartments wherein bread may be raised and cooked, and also having compartments for linen, cooking and eating utensils, and spices.

The invention consists of the details of construction hereinafter described for accomplishing these ends, as well as in certain auxiliaries.

Reference is made to the drawings, wherein Flgure l is a front elevation of this stove complete, with the door of the baker shown as open and the right-hand shelf raised. Fig. 2 is a central vertical transverse section taken Just in front of the hinged shelf-support, which is shown in this ligure as down. Fig. 3 is an end elevation showing the rear shelf as raised. Fig. et is a right-hand elevation showing the escape-pipe for the products of combustion.

Referring to the said drawings, A is a Wooden box comprising the body of the baker and lined with a coating of asbestus a. This baker has a door D, hinged atone side and preferably also lined with asbestus Ct, and the baker occupies about half of the body of my entire device, as shown. Within the baker on legs h is supported an oven B, whose size is Somewhat smaller than the interior of the baker, which oven also has a door in its front, as will be clearly understood. Within the body of the device and upon the bottom thereof is a wooden block K2, upon which rests an ordinary oiliamp L, and the chimney of this lamp extends upward through an opening A in the bottom in the baker to a point near the bottom of the oven when the latter is in place within the baker. When this lamp is lit, the products of combustion rising therefrom pass completely around the oven, as shown by the arrows, and make their exit from the device through a tube c, connected Serial No. 357,108. by a pipe C with the chimney or with any suitable exit-line. In this manner bread or cake can be baked within the oven in a manner which will be readily understood.

His a receptacle having a'hinged door h and occupying a position at the left of the baker, so as to take up substantially all the remainder of the space within the entire device. This box H is lined with paper H3 and inside of that with tin H4 in order to render it mold-proof, and the door H is also similarly lined.

Above and below the receptacle H are drawers E of various sizes and for various purposes, one of the drawers at the top being preferably divided into a number of compartments for spices. The drawers atthe bottom are quite copious, and two small drawers e may also be provided, if desired, at the other side of the lamp, as shown.

At the right of the device is preferably located a metal shelf M, formed of coarse wirenetting, with the surrounding frame 'nt and supported by a braket K, hinged at 71: to the side of the body. At the inner end of the frame M are depending hooks N, which engage eyes or sockets n on the body of the device, and the upper ends of the brackets K abut against the stops K on the shelf, as shown. This shelf is made of metal in order that the heat from hot dishes placed thereon will not burn it.

G is a large shelf hinged at g to the rear corner of the top of this device and supported by other brakets K, the same as those above described.

The asbestus lining eifectually protects the woodwork, and in order to render this entire device insect-proof I support the same upon legs Q, which are substantially of the shape shown-that is to say, the body has an upwardly and outwardly extending annular flange, forming a cup, which is filled with powdered alum or insect-powder, or even with water. The stein of the body extends upwardly from the bottom of this cup into the main body of the device, and upon this stem is a cover extending outwardly slightly beyond the edge of the flange, whereby dust is prevented from accumulating therein, as will be understood.

With the above construction of parts the dough is kneaded and the bread is made upon the shelf G or upon the top of the device, and the same is put into the receptacle H to rise. When it is risen sufficiently, the dough is taken from the receptacle and put into the oven, and if the lamp is lit and a necessary amount of heat generated the bread will be rapidly baked in the oven. It may be then taken out and kept stored in the receptacle. The oven B is removable from the baker and may be replaced by a smaller oven, if desired, for other purposes. g

The wire-netting shelf M is designed for washing dishes, and when not in use may be removed and put inside the baker alongside the oven, as shown in Fig. 2.

Considerable departure may be made from the details of construction above described without essentially changing the nature of my invention.

That I claim is- In a device of the character set forth, the combination of a Wooden box having a central vertically-disposed partition dividing the same into opposite compartments, one of which is formed as a baker and provided with a hinged door lined with asbestus and With a horizontal partition above the bottom of the boX, with a central opening therein dividing the compartment in which it is situated into an upper enlarged closed baking-chamber space and a lower reduced lamp-chamber h aving a tier of drawers in one end thereof, a lining .of asbestus entirelyT surrounding the interior of thesaid baking-chamberspace and having a central opening in the bottom thereof aligning with the opening in said horizontal partition, feet projecting upward from the said horizontal partition on opposite sides of the opening therein, a baking-chamber removably resting on the said feet and having a hinged door, and a wooden block in the bottom of the lampcompartinent for supporting a lamp and ele- SARAH L.
