HOISTING-MACHINE.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters atent No. 483,391, dated September 27, 1892. Application tiled June 3, 1892. Serial No. 435374. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, WILLIAM 111. RIcKA- BACH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mishawaka, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in IIoisting-Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had t the accompanying drawings, which form a v an improved machine of the above character which shall possess superior advantages with respect to efficiency in operation, whereby heavy weights of any description may be elevated and placed in a wagon for transportation.

The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a machine constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same. Fig. 3 is a plan view.

In the said drawings the referencenumeral 1 designates two uprights or standards, secured at their lower ends to the base-pieces 2 and connected together at the top by a crossbeam 3. Journaled in bearings f1, secured to said cross-beam, is a drum 5, having a cogwheel C, meshing with a pinion 7 on a shaft 8, also journaled in said bearings and pron vided with a grooved pulley 0. Connected with the drum 5 is a hoisting or elevating rope 10, which passes through the beam 3 and around a double sheave 12, and from thence around another sheave 13, secured to the cross-beam.

Secured to one of the uprights 1 is a frame 14, in which is journaled a drum 15, having a cogwheel 16 and a ratchet 17, with which engages a pawl18 to prevent backward Inovement of the drum. The cog-wheel 1G meshes with a pinion 19 on a shaft 20, also journaled in frame lll and provided with hand-cranks 21, by which it may be rotated. A rope 23 is secured to drum 15 and extends up to and is wound around the pulley 9, so that as the drum 15 is rotated motion will be imparted to the drum 5 on the cross-beam 3.

Jonrnaled in bearings 24, secured to the uprights 1, is a shaft 25, provided with a pulley 26 at one end, with which is connected a rope 27, passing downwardly to a drum 28, provided with a crank 29 and a ratchet 30.

The numeral 31 denotes a platform provided with eyes or loops 32, with which engage hooks 3d, secured to ropes 35, which are secured to the shaft 25.

The operation is as follows: Supposing a stone or other heavy weight is to be elevated and placed upon a wagon or other vehicle for transportation, a chain is passed around the same in the ordinary manner and connected with hooks 36 on the double sheave 12. The shaft 2O is now rotated. by means of the cranks 21, which cause the drum 15 to be turned and the rope 23 to be wound thereupon and the stone or other object to be elevated. The platform 31 is now placed underneath. the stone or other weight with one end resting upon the wagon upon which it is to be placed or deposited, and the shaft 25 is rotated by means of the drum 28 and its connections, causing the platform to be tilted, so that the stone will roll or slide thereupon to the wagon.
