Description
(No Model.) l J. W. ORMSBY.
LAMP OR LANTERN.
No. 483,386. Patented Sept. 27, 1892.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN WV. ORMSBY, OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
LAMP OR LANTERN.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 483,386, dated September 2'7, 1892.
Application filed April 25,1892. Serial No, 430,585- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN W. ORMSBY, of Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lamps or Lanterns; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to lamps or lanterns and will be fully described hereinafter.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section of a lantern illustrating my invention. Fig. 2 is a perspective view thereof detached.
A is the base of a lantern, which may be of any approved form, and B is the chimney.
C is a bail of inverted-U shape, the arms of which pass through openings a in a cap D and terminate each in a horizontal loop a, which loops are designed to catch over the flared top of the chimney. The bail is of elastic metal, and the arms have a tendency to separate when left free; but the cap acts as a securing-ringwhen it is forced down on the top of the chimney and clamps the loops 0 onto the chimney so securely that it cannot be detached; but when the cap is lifted the arms separate of themselves. The cap D is of course perforated, as shown, and may be of any desired design.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with a bail having loops for clamping the top of a lamp-chimney, of a cap adapted to slide on the arms of the bail and Wedge their loops toward each other, as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN W. ORMSBY. Witnesses:
W. H. RUFF, M. A. DONLEY.
