GAS-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,891, dated September 20, 1892.
Application filed January 9, 1892. Serial No. 417,479. (No model.)
T0 to whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, KARL GEORG BARK- HAUSEN, professor, a subject of the King of Prussia and German Emperor,residingatHanover, in the Kingdom of Prussia and German Empire, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to beafull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to gas-holders; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical section of the gas-holder. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing the bell in section.
A is the bell, and B is the outer section of the holder. These parts slide vertically in a tank or receptacle and are provided with the rails f and rollers t, and are constructed, supported, and guided in any approved manner. A stationary central pillar b is provided inside the holder and may also form the inlet or outlet gas-pipe. A ring I) is constructed to slide on this pillar, and c are radial chains or ropes, which connect the ring 6 with the lower edge of the bottom of section B and prevent it from shifting laterally. The ring I) is also connected by radial chains or cords d with the lower edge of the bell A, and these chains are of such length that they are not drawn taut until the bell has ascended and the lower section is about to commence its ascent. Light supports e are secured to the bottom of the tank or receptacle under the middle parts of the chains cl. These supports carry the slack chains when the bell is lowered and prevent them from kinking and becoming entangled with each other. The rails f and guide-pulleys t may be dispensed with altogether, ifdesired.
I claim- 1. In a gas-holder, the combination, with the outer section B and the bell A, of a stationary central pillar inside the holder, a ring constructed to slide on the said pillar, a series of radial chains (:1, connecting the said ring with the periphery of the bell, and a second series of chains connecting the said ring with the periphery of the outer section B, substantially as set forth.
2. In a gas-holder, the combination, with the bell A, of a stationary central pillar inside the holder, a ring constructed to slide on the said pillar, a series of radial chains connecting the said ring with the periphery of the bell, and the supports 6, arranged under the middle portions of the said chains, substantially as set forth.
