PATENT QFFICEO FRANK E. HOUSH, OF BRATTLEBOROUGH, VERMONT.
GRAPH'OSCOPE.
3PECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 482,793, dated September 20, 1892.
Application filed February 5, 1892. Serial No. 420.379. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK E. I'IOUSH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brattleborough, in the county of Windham and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Graphoscopes; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in graphoscopes, which will be hereinafter more particularly described and pointed out.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the inside of the case. Fig. 2 represents a narrow strip of paper having a series of pictures thereon. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section on line a: a: of Fig. l.
A is a case made of any suitable sheet material, open at top, having in the center of the bottom plate a stem a, securely fastened to it, which has a threaded hole a.
B is an open reel having in the center of its top plate 1) a milled head-nut b, which is secured permanently to it. This milled head is for the purpose of turning the reel around. In the center of the nut b is a hole 0 for the insertion of a screw d, by which the reel B is fastened to the case A in the stem a. (See Fig. 3.) The strip O is made of sufficient length to pass around the circumference of the reel 13 and far enough to let one end lap over the other, to which it is secured by paste or mucilage, as shown at c c, Fig. 2. It is designed to have any number of such slips, on which series of pictures are to be painted, engraved, photographed, 850., so that they can be put on and taken from the reel at pleasure.
Attached to the rim A of the case A there are four pins e, two on each side of the opening 6' in the rim A. On these pins 6 is a magnifying-glass D, having four holes in its mounting d, which fit over and slide upon the pins 2, and on which pins the glass can be moved to and fro for adjustment to a proper focus to suit the vision of different eyes.
I claim The case A, open at top, having a central stem (1, an opening 6 in the rim A, and the pins 6, in combination with the open reel B, having the milled nut b, fastening-screw (l, the picture-strip O, and adjustable glass D.
In testimony whereof Iaffix mysignature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK E. I-IOUSH.
