HOLDER FOR FISHING-LINE REELS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,941, dated September 6, 1892.

Application led January 14, 1892. Serial No. 418,040. (No model.)

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JEREMIAH FALVEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and nsefnllmprovements in Holders for Fishing-Line Reels, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to an improvement in holders for fishing-line reels; and the invention consists in certain novel features of construction set forth in the following speciication and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of the holder along line a: oc, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section along line y y, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section along line a z, Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a section along line u u, Fig. l. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of the reel. Fig. 6 is a plan view of the holder. Fig. 7 is a perspective View of a ring or clamp.

In the drawings, the letter A indicates a tube into which extends the fishingrod or the lishing-rod sections B. This tube A acts as a support for the brace C ot` the reel. The frame-plates D of the reel are secured to the base C, and the reel, with its crank E, may be 0f any well-known construction. The tube or support A has ribs 0r projections F, on which a ring or clamp G is adapted to move longitudinally. The ribs F hold the ring or fastening G far enoughA away from the tube A to enable the ring G to slip onto or engage one end of the reel-base C, as seen in Fig. 1. Said tube or support A also has shoulders or flanges H I, between which is seated the ring or clamp K, said ring K being rotatable on the tube A, but being prevented from longitudinal motion by said flanges H I. The ring or fastening K has an enlarged portion or recess L for the engagement of the end of the reel-base opposite to that engaged by clamp G. The ring K being rotatable, as described, the reel-holder is what may be called transversely reversible, since by removing the reel, which in Fig. lis on the upper side of the rod, and giving the ring K a half-turn the recess or enlargement Will come to the under side of the rod B or tube A, and the reel can thus be secured to the under side of the rod or tube.

In Fig. 1 the reel is shown in full lines secured near one end of the tube A. If it is desired to move the reel nearer to the other end of the tube A, said reel, as indicated by broken lines, is secured between the ring or clamp G and the ring or clamp K. As the construction and arrangement of the clamp K are similar to that of clamp K, said construction need not be again described. As both rings or fastenings K and K are transversely reversible between the respective flanges H I, the reel can be secured at one side or the other at either end of the tube A.

The ribs F may be omitted, if desired, withont interfering with the efficiency of the dev1ce.

What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

l. A reel-holder for a shing-rod, consisting of a tube or support A, having at each end a revoluble ring provided with a laterally-projecting recessed portion adapted to receive the end of a reel-base and adjustable transversely by turning the ring on the tube or support, and a longitudinally-sliding ring arranged on the tube or support between the revoluble end rings, substantially as described.

2. A reel-holder for a fishing-rod, consisting of a tube or support A, having a set of flanges H and I at each end portion, the revoluble rings K and K', arranged, respectively, between the sets of iianges and provided With laterally projecting recessed portions L, adapted to receive the end of a reel-base and adjustable transversely by turning the rings, and a longitudinally-sliding ring G, arranged on the tube or support between the revoluble end rings, substantially as described.
