Description
I UNITED STATES T ATENT FFICE,
JOHN GRAY AND ABNER SIMMONS, OF CORSIOANA, TEXAS.
SOAP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,860, dated August 30, 1892.
Application filed January 20, 1892. Serial No. 418,671. (No specimens.)
T0 at whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JOHN GRAY and AB- NER SIMMONS, of Oorsicana, in the county of Navarro and State of Texas-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in the Manufacture of Soap; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it,reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
Our invention relates to the manufacture of soap; and it consistsin the ingredients hereinafter mentioned and the manner of compounding the same.
Our composition is composed of the following ingredients in substantially the proportions mentioned: Sal-soda, six ounces; borax, oneounce; saltstartar, two ounces; ammonia, one ounce; turpentine, one ounce; benzine, one ounce; coal-oil, one ounce; bar-soap, five and one-half pounds.
In the manufacture of our soap We take one gallon of water and place in it the sal-soda, borax, and salts of tartar and soap in the proportions herein given and heat them until they are thoroughly dissolved. WVhen all of them have become thoroughly dissolved and incorporated, they are removed from the fire and the ammonia, turpentine, benzine, and coaloil stirred therein until thoroughly mixed. The composition is then allowed to cool. The placing of these last ingredients in the composition solidifies it, so that a good soap is produced, While at the same time they form a component part of the ingredients of the soap.
If it is desired to use soft-lye soap instead of bar soap, a half gallon of water and ten pounds of the soft soap are used with the same quantity of other ingredients as herein given, when the same result will be accomplished.
Having thus described our invention, what We claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A composition for soap, composed of the following ingredients in substantially the proportions speoified, viz: sal-soda, borax, salts tartar, ammonia, turpentine, benzine, coal-oil, and soap, as set forth.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN GRAY. ABNER SIMMONS.
