To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, JOSEPH E. BOHNER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ansonia, county of New Haven, State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and use ful Improvement in Lamp-Shade Supports, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the drawings accompanying and forming a part of the same.

These improvements relate to devices for engaging a lamp shade or globe and attaching the same to its main supports. They particularly relate to such devices when employed to attach a lamp-shade to the suspending-harp or supporting-frame of a hanging lamp.

The special object of the invention is to provide an adjustable clasp or clamp for securing the lamp shade or globe directly to the harp of a lamp and without a shade-ring, the clamp being adapted in construction for attachment to a lamp-harp and also having means for attachment to a hanging or suspension connection, whereby one form of clamp can be provided for various forms of shades and without the necessity of constructing such clamp on the harps.

I will first describe one form of clamp embodying my invention, and then point out in the claims to follow the description the various elements and combinations of elements I regard as new.

In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side View of one form of clamp, the same shown as holding a shade. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same from the left-hand of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 is an elevation view of a lamp-harp and suspension connections with my improved shadeclamp attached thereto, the lamp-sh ade being shown in section.

In the views, A represents the head or body of the clamp; B, the shank; C, the eye or device for receiving a chain D or other suspension connection; E, the lamp shade or globe, and F a section of a harp or frame for carrying a lamp.

The head A of the clamp is cup or box shaped, so as to form a guide-recess G for the jaw-block H, which block is loosely fitted therein and is drawn in by the screw I, which passes through the back side of the head, its thumb-nut J bearing on the inner face of the head.

The j aw-block carries the j aw K,which turns downward and inward toward the shank in form, adapting it to engage the headed or flanged edge L of a shade or globe, as seen in Fig. 1.

The lower end of the shank B is beveled or flattened or otherwise shaped to adapt it to be attached to a harp-arm. This attachment may be by screws or rivets M, entering holes N in the shank. The eye 0 is preferably of the loop or ring form shown, whereby a suspension connection, as chain D, may be attached, by which the harp and lamp are suspended. Such suspension connection, however, may be of any other suitable form. Preferably, also, I extend the head of the clamp laterally, so as to produce the horizontal and vertical side bearings O P for the shade, the former for the upper top and the latter for the inner face of the neck of the shade. By these means it will be seen that I provide a shade-supporting clamp separate from the harp and yet adapted to be readily attached to any form of harp. This clamp can be manufactured independently of the harp, and thus each can be produced more easily and cheaply than when the clamp or portions thereof are an integral part of the harp. The adjustable jaw permits the use of shades or globes of different sizes and having various thickness or forms of necks. The lateral bearings of the clamp act to steady the shade in the clamp and obviate the use of a shade-ring or any other additional means of attachment to the shade.

What is claimed as new is 1. A lamp shade or globe supporting clamp device consisting of a body-piece adapted in construction and provided with means for attachment to a lamp-harp and to suspension connections, as shank B and eye C, and a jaw adjustable on the body of the clamp and adapted to engage and support a lamp shade or globe, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. In combination in a clamp for supporting a lamp-shade, a body-piece provided with means of attachment to a lamp-harp and to suspension connections, as by shank B and eye C, a jaw movably mounted on the head of the clamp and adapted to engage and support a lamp-shade, and a screw rotatably fixed on the clamp and engaging the said jaw and adapted to adjust the same, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

3. In combination in a clamp for supporting a lamp-shade, the recessed head A, the

5 adjustable shade-engaging jaw-block and jaw H L, the shank B, adapted to be secured to a lamp-harp, and a suspension attachment, as
