TOY GAM E APPARATUS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,725, dated August 16, 1892.

To all whom it may concern.-

Be it known that I, GEORGE HILL, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing in Lombard, in the county of Du Page and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Toy Game Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to toy game apparatus.

This invention is of the class of games which are played with marbles, and is adapted to be placed on the table or fioor or any convenient place; and it consists in a front or arched board containing a series of openings or arches, through which the player endeavors to shoot the marble or other article with which the game is played. The frame consists of an arch board with openings and rear boards pivoted to the arch board and forming an inclosure at the rear of the same, said rear boards sustaining the front board when in position for use. The player has a given number of marbles with which to begin the game, and he scores according to the number of marbles which he has been fortunate enough to project through the arches in the front board, each of which openings has a given number to be counted. Each marble scores according to the number of the arch through which it passes. After passing through the arched board the marble is re tained in a triangular receptacle at the rear of said board. This receptacle is again divided into a second triangular receptacle by a second arch board having but one opening in the same. Any marble passing through this opening will have a still higher number to add to the score.

I have so constructed this apparatus that when not in use or for purposes of shipment it may be folded into a very small compass.

This invention will be more fully understood by reference to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification,

in which similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures, and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the apparatus; Fig. 2, a side elevation; Fig. 3, a plan view of the device folded; Fig. 4, a top view showing the method of placing the apparatus for use, and Fig. 5 a detail perspective view.

In the drawings, Amay represent the front or arch board, containing a series of openings or arches a. The center one of these openings is preferably the one having the highest number, and the value of theopenings decrease as they go toward the sides of the board. The player scores according to the number above the opening through which he is fortunate enough to shoot the marble, so that his aim will be to shoot the marble through the opening having the highest number.

The receptacle A is formed by the side pieces B B, which are pivotally and movably joined to the front board by eyes I) b,throngh which pass the long staples a. The side pieces are fastened together at their rear ends by a hook and eye 1) b The side pieces are also provided with grooves 19 into which fit the tongues or projections c 0 upon the ends of the rear arch board 0, having an arch c. The number counted by the marble which passes through this arch c is preferably of twice the value of the opening in the front board having the highest number, and the marble which passes through this opening adds to the score of the player the amount of the opening in the front board through which it passed and the value of the opening 0. Then the apparatus is not intended for use, the hook I) is released and the side pieces are moved upon the staples ctand folded upon the back of the front board, so as to lie side by side, and the rear arch board is placed as shown in Fig. 3. Thus the apparatus is designed to be folded into avery compact space.

I claim 1. The game apparatus adapted to be used upon a table, floor, or other surface suitable for the rolling of marbles, consisting of the folding frame A B B, the partA having openings for the marbles, substantially as specified.
