Nrrnny rares ELVIN T. ZELLNER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ClGAR-PRESS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 480,055, dated August 2, 1892.
Application led April 11, 1892. Serial No. 428.625. (No model.)
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELVIN T. ZELLNER, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State ofPennsylvania, haveinvented a new and useful Improvement in Cigar-Presses, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My inventionconsists of a cigar-press having a follower, an operating device therefor, and means for connecting and guiding said follower on the frame of the press.
Figure l represents a partial side elevation and partial vertical section of a cigar-press embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a transverse vertical section on line w, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a top view on a reduced scale.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the frame of a cigar-press, consisting of a base B, stationary end piece C, and back .piece D, said pieces C and D rising from the base and forming, with the follower E,the press-chamber F, which is open in front and top for the receplion and removal of cigars to be pressed, said follower being placed on the base B and having connected with it a screw G, which latter is fitted in a nut H, which is swiveled on the Standard J, rising from the base B, said nut being provided with a handle K for conveniently rotating the same.
Connected with the upper and outer sides of the follower E, at diagonally-opposite corners thereof, are angular lips L and M, respectively, each lip having one of its limbs freely entering a groove in the rear of the back D and under face of the base B, respectively, it being seen that When the handle K is properly turned motion is imparted to the screw G, and consequently to the follower E, in order to press the cigars placed in the chamber F. Vhen the said handle is rotated in the opposite direction, the followeris withdrawn, and the cigars are accordingly released of pressure. In the motions of the follower the lips L and M guide the same and the angular limbs thereof firmly connect said follower with the back and base and receive the strain to which the follower may be subjected in the direction outwardly from the back D.
The standard J is connected with the baseplate N, which is screwed or otherwise fastened to the base B, and has its inner edge beveled, as at. P, forming a dovetailed joint with said base, wherebythe standard is firmly sustained in upright position. In order to prevent the lip M from coming in contact with the table on which the press is supported, a portion of the under side of the base is cut away, as at Q, thus raising the horizontal portion of the lip from said table.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. A cigar-press consisting of a base, end, and back pieces, a follower having lips guiding it on the base and back pieces, a standard secured to the base, a screw secured to the follower and passing through the 'standard, and a nut swiveled to the standard and mounted on the screw, said parts being combined substantially as described.
2. In a cigar-press, a follower connected with the back and base of the frame by means of angular lips, one limb of each of which enters a groove in the respective part,a portion of the base being recessed to raise the adjacent lip so as to clear the table, substantially as described.
ELVIN T. '.ELLNER.
