SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 479,939, dated August 2, 1892.

To aZZ whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, ALFRED N. GREEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewistown, in the county of Logan and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hitches for Single and Double Trees and Neck-Yokes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention,which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to devices for attaching single and double trees and neck-yokes; and it consists of the construction and arrangement of the parts, as will be more fully hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.

The object of the invention is to provide means in connection with a single or a double tree or a neck-yoke by which they are made readily attachable or detachable from each other and other-parts, said means being simple, efiective, and strong and durable.

In the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference are employed to indicate corresponding parts in the several views, and therein Figure 1 represents a top plan view of a single and double tree with my improvement shown in connection therewith. Fig. 2 represents a similar view of a neck-yoke en1- bodying my invention. Fig. 3 represents a perspective view of the device applied to the ends of the singletree. Fig. 4: represents a similar view of the device applied as a connection for the doubletree or singletree to a wagon and to each other and also to a neckyoke. Fig. 5 represents a supporting-block used with one set of the devices, shown in detail perspective.

Referring to the drawings, A designates supports or blocks having a boss or ear A, provided. with an eye or aperture B, extending transversely therethrough. A portion of said blocks have extending from one side of said boss or car A a short arm B, and from the opposite side of said boss or car projects a longer arm B diametrically opposite to the arm B. This arrangement of arms will be fully explained hereinafter. These blocks are either provided with a wire or round-iron loop D, terminating in a hook E, or with a closed loop 0 of similar formation as the loop D. Each of said loops D and C are substantially triangular in form and have their widest portion freely mounted in the eyes or apertures 13 of said blocks. The arms B and B of a portion of the said blocks are preferably of a uniform arrangement, so that they may be readily applied to their several uses; but such form of construction is especially intended to arrange the devices 0 or D near the ends of the parts to whichthey are secured. Consequently the short arm B is secured on the outside and the longer arm B inside. As a central attachment for a doubletree and the connection for a singletree, the block A, carrying arms of equal length and the closed loop 0, is secured to the front edges of said parts, which are first inserted through the said loop, as shown. The central rear edges of the single and double trees near the ends have blocks A secured thereto, carrying, preferably, the loops 0, so that connection of the several parts may be made, as shown. It will be noticed that in this instance the loops 0 are mounted to inclose the parts to which they are connected.

In the neck-yoke the block carrying loop 0 is universally used, one of said. loops being employed as a tongue-ring.

The supporting-block is constructed of any suitable material.

The convenience and utility of the device in either form is manifold, and the adaptability of the improvement is readily appreciable.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination, with a whiffletree, of a plate secured thereto and in a longitudinal plane therewith, and a boss formed integral with the plate and projecting beyond the outer upper and lower sides thereof, for the purpose described, said boss being provided with an eye at right angles to the plate, and a link or hook of approximately triangular shape having its straight vertical side mounted loosely within the eye, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
