ALARM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 478,982, dated July 19, 1892.
Application filed April 1,1892- Serial No. 427,326. (No model.)
To ail whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANZ F. BOEGNER, of New York city, New York, have invented an Improved Alarm, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an alarm adapted to engage the spindle of a door-latch and to be sounded by the turning of the door-knob.
It consists in the various features of improvement more fully pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is an elevation of my improved alarm; Fig. 2, an end view thereof; and Fig. 3, a cross-section on line a: 00, Fig. 1.
The letters a a represent two converging levers turning on pivots a of a pair of crossarms I) and terminating on top in a pair of semicircular jaws a These jaws are held against the spindle o of the door-latch by a curved spring 01, that bears with its ends against the free ends of the levers a. The spring (1 is coiled around a pin 19, passing through the center of arms (7. From this pin there is suspended by a forked stem f a bell f, having the usual hammer f. The jaws a may be provided with a suitable cushion or packing 6. Normally the bell hangs in line vertically below the spindle 0; but when the spindle is revolved by either one of its knobs c the levers a, which are tightly held thereto, will assume an inclined position. This will cause the hammer f to be thrown against the bell, so as to sound the same.
lVhat I claim is The combination of a pair of converging levers a, having concave jaws M, with the connecting-arm b, to which the levers are pivoted, a spring d for forcing the jaws a together, and a bell f, suspended from the connectingarm, substantially as specified.
FRANZ F. BOEGNER.
