THOMAS OHARTERIS, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
WOOD-.BLOCK FLOORING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 478,847, dated July 12, 1892.
Application filed November 11, 1891. Serial No. 411,641. (No model.) Patented in England August 9, 1889, No. 12,620.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, THOMAS CHARTERIS, builder and contractor, of Earl Street, London, Middlesex, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in VVood- Block Flooring; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof.
This invention has been patented to me in England, No. 12,620, August 9, 1889.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in wood-block flooring, and which invention has for its object to construct the said wood-block flooring of greater rigidity than heretofore and to enable the blocks to be laid more easily and in a neater and more expeditious manner than hitherto, and when laid the blocks are immovable, as will be hereinafter pointed out.
1 will now proceed to describe my said invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, like letters referring to similar parts throughout all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a floor block made in accordance with my invention.
7 Fig. 2 is a plan view of so much .of a flooring which are dovetail rabbeted 011 both sides, as shown at a, and continued on to form tongues B, which fit into the dovetailedrabbets of thelaid in any desired pattern the tongue B will 7 enter the dovetail grooves formed in the sides of the other blocks, and will thereby bind the blocks together in such a manner as to prevent one block being removed without displacing the others. The blocks are further held in place by a suitable cement O, which enters and forms a rigid key in the cavities D, formed by the dovetail grooves a.
What I claim as my invention is The herein-described flooring-block, provided on both sides with dovetail rabbets or, continued to form tongues B, said tongues being made narrower than the width of the block and extending beyond the ends of same and provided with bevels b and fastened together, as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of September, 1891.
THOMAS OHARTERIS.
